Lord Maru. 48

It was late and the twin suns of Pentanthin had slipped down over the horizon by the time Gabor and his raiding party returned to the Academy. It had been a long strange trip. A mysterious one but somehow successful. Seru was dead with her head in a bag on Gabor's Tracker. None of them still had any idea just what had happened. How had she died? What strange force had put them in a deep sleep and did their work for them? None of them, not even the wise far seeing blind Lady Kordova had any answers.
As the Academy gates came into view, Ono steered his Tracker closer to Gabor's. He could see a worried concerned look on the young leaders face.
"I see trouble all over your face Gabor." Ono said as Shayn rode up on the other side. "Whats bothering you?"
"Isn't it obvious?" Gabor looked from one to the other. "Something took out Seru's entire lair while we lay there sleeping. Whoever it was, they could be a danger to us."
"They could also be a friend." Shayn reminded him. "We just don't know."
"That's right, we don't know. And I don't trust the unknown." Gabor looked in at the darkness surrounding the walls of the Academy. "It looks dead in there. Could something have happened while we were away."
"No." Shayn smiled. "I can hear them all in my mind. All's well. It's just Blinks shadows hiding everyone."
"Wait!" Tanis put up his hand looking around in the darkness. "Somethings wrong here. We're not alone."
"Everyone spread out and search." Gabor whispered. "And stay in the darkness. There could be more then one out there."
Guiding Lilia and the Trackers into deep shadows, Gabor tied them to a tree and quietly whispered to her.
"What do you see Lady?"
"There are three out there." Tuning her senses into a fine net, she scanned the forest. "They're Savonti hunters. We've been found!"
"Warn Tanis and Azeal." Gabor ordered. "Have everyone else meet us here. From what Tanis has told me of vampires, they have the best chance to catch them."
Lilia nodded and sent out Gabor's message.
As everyone gathered in the dark with Gabor and Lilia, A heavy fog began to roll in obscuring everything. No one could see more then inches in front of them.
"A vampire fog." Ono whispered to Gabor. "The Savonti will be lost in it's thickness."
"Good." Gabor nodded and turned back to Lilia. "Can you still follow them and guide them?"
"Of course." She answer. "But I don't think they need guidance. They know exactly where the Savonti are."
In the thick fog, Azeal reached to his side and slid Justice free of it's scabbard. A soft blue glow surrounded the blade for a second until Azeal willed it away. Tanis next to him pointed north. There were two Savonti warriors heading in there way lost in the cold chilly fog. Azeal nodded and slipped off to come in behind them. The last warrior had stumbled toward the east. Tanis wrapped himself in fog and moved in that direction.
"I can't see anything in this thick mess." One of the two said quietly.
"I can't either." Came his companions answer. "Stay close."
Like thieves invading a treasure trove the two tried to stay quiet as they stumbled around. They knew someone was out there. But they had lost sight of them when the strange fog moved in. Clutching blades with there free hand stretched out to avoid running into anything, they moved on. The sounds of the forest put them both on edge. Every noise around them caused them to jump and turn in that direction. Suddenly one stumbled and fell and disappeared into the fog.
"Hes, Get up!"
Then the sound of blows landing and a harsh intake of air rang out. Cac, the second warrior called out to Hes.
"Hes? Where are you?" Cac probed the area where Hes had vanished. There was nothing there. No body, nothing. A howl in the night caused Cac to jump clutching his blade. He spun around from side to side looking for Hes or anyone else in the fog. Still he saw nothing in his limited range of view. As Cac again began to move and back out the way he had came, fear took hold in the Savonti warrior. All around him the sound of howling came out of the night. The blade in his hand began to tremble in fear.
Suddenly a great dark figure dressed in black reared up out of the fog and floated toward him. Yellow glowing orbs marked the place where the eyes should be and a glowing blue blade flashed in its hand. Cac attacked slashing out in a frenzy with his blade which was easily parred. Again and again he attacked, slashing and stabbing at the frightening figure advancing on him until with a quick swing, his blade was knocked from his hand. Strange laughing echoed through the night as Cac turned and tried to run away. He made it a few feet before another dark thing appeared in front of him. Cac tried to power his way pass and knock it out of his way, but it was like running into a wall and he fell back into the fog.
Looking up Cac saw the two dark figures cloaked and standing over him. They looked human but unlike any human he had ever seen before. Their eyes were like two glowing stars in the night sky. They both hissed showing long fangs in their mouths that looked needle sharp. One was all in black with jet black hair and scars on his face. The other wore brown without scars but was just as frightening.
"Move a muscle and you die here and now." The scarred one hissed. Trembling in fear, Cac obeyed and didn't move. The two things looked up at each other and spoke a strange language then looked off into the fog.
"He comes." The scarred one said.

"What happened?" Gabor asked Shayn anxiously.
"One still lives." He answered. "Azeal wants us to come meet them. He's also called Cutter and Mar out to join us."
"You can find him in this fog?"
"Yes." Ono smiled. "But don't worry. Azeal's fog will be gone in a few minutes."
As they waited the night air warmed and the fog began to clear. Ono turned to Gabor and smiled.
"See. We can go now."
"That's a pretty handy trick." Gabor untied Lilia's Tracker and led it off following Shayn and Ono.
"I think our friends have a lot of tricks that could be useful in this war." Lilia said from her seat on the Tracker.
"Indeed."
It took them only a few units before they arrived to find Azeal and Tanis standing over a scared out of his mind Savonti warrior dressed in silver Savonti armor. Tanis waved them to a place where they could talk in private while Azeal kept watch. Gabor looked around for the other two.
"Where are the others?" He asked.
"They didn't make it." Tanis shrugged. "Does it matter?"
"It could." Gabor took a closer look. "Not all Savonti are the same. See the short fin on his head? He's not from this area. I'm guessing he's from the south. And his house colors are strange to me. I never saw anything like that before."
[I have.] A voice broke into their thoughts. Looking up into the night sky two winged beast came down through the trees. One had a Savonti on it's back. As they touched down they both shifted forms. It was Cutter, Mar and the changeling Ozmun.
"Welcome home." Cutter walked up and gripped each one of them by the arm then hugged Shayn and Ono. "I guess Seru is no more?"
"Her head is in a bag on my saddle and all her slaves are free." Gabor told them. "But it didn't go quite the way we planned."
"What's that mean?" Ozmun and Cutter looked at them unsure.
"We'll explain later. You know these colors from somewhere?"
"This is the colors of Lord Redu." Mar told them. "A mysterious and very dangerous lord. My father has tried to dealing with him in the past."
"What's his men doing here?" Shayn asked.
"Lets find out." Cutter smiled and turned and walked to where Azeal watched the warrior.
"Nazun warrior." Mar slapped his fist to his chest in salute. "What beings you so far from the house of Redu?"
The warrior looked up at Mar. The fear was gone from his eyes. He sat up a spit at Mar with a look of disgust.
"You are one of the armauk sons of Lesu." Hate radiated out at Mar. "You stand here with these men like you respect them. Tell me, Why would the son of so powerful a lord do such a thing?"
What is your name warrior?"
I am Cac of Redul." He answered.
"I know for agens we the Savonti have been the masters of Pentanthin and consider these humans as nothing more then beast." Mar sat down facing Cac to try and explain. "But tell me. What makes us better then they are? Our power? They have power to. Some more, powerful then us. Is it simply that we are stronger and faster or are we smarter? I don't believe we are. You may not understand or agree with me but they have just as much right to live and prosper as we do. They are intelligent just as we are with all the same emotions that we have. They protect each other and they learn. They don't deserve to be hunted and used like beast. If the Savonti wish to survive on Pentanthin, things have to change. We have to learn to live with the humans or one day the prophesy will come true and we will all be doomed."
"You speak wise words and there is truth in what you say." Cac looked at the humans gathered around him. "You are not the only one that thinks in this fashion. There are many in Redul that agree with you. But we hide. If Lord Redu knew, we would all be cast as armauk and made into slaves or worst."
"And you Cac?"
"Humans are no enemy to me." He admitted he looking around at the strange humans that stood behind Mar. "But I follow my lords orders. If you were a lord, I would follow you. So would many others."
"Rise Cac." Mar ordered and helped him to his feet. "I have something to tell you. The white and Grey are here and the time of the prophesy is at hand. We have to change our people or die with them. Will you help me to make these changes in the Savonti? It will be a hard battle ahead of us?"
"I will follow you Lord Maru." He bowed to Mar and saluted him fist to his chest. Mar reached out in the human fashion and gripped his arm.
"This is how humans swear an oath." Mar shook his hand. "You are the second warrior in the house of Maru. Nazun Cac!"
"Nazun my lord." He shook vigorously. "What are your orders?"
"We need to know all about Redu." Mar told him. "Everything you can tell us. Gather your trackers and join us. I will introduce you to your new allies."
"Yes my lord." Cac turned and headed into the forest to find where they had tied their trackers. Mar returned to his friend who had been watching and listening.
"You trust him?" Cutter asked.
"With my life." Mar nodded affirmative. "Do you feel any deception in him?"
"No I don't." They watched as Cac gathered the two larger Tracker beast and started toward them. "I think I have an idea. Tell me something. Have you ever tested the limits of your changeling abilities?"
"I'm not sure what you mean." Ozmun answered. "But I've become large and small animals. Size and shape doesn't matter."
"But what if you tried to look like, him." Cutter pointed to the warrior. "Could you do it?"
They all turned to look at the warrior who had just joined them. Ozmun smiled.
"I don't see why not. What are you thinking?"
"I have an idea for you and Mar." Cutter told them. "Let's get inside and I'll explain."
"What about him?" Tanis asked indicating the warrior."
"He's one of us now. He has knowledge we may need."
"I will tell you what I know." He looked at the humans there around him. "Redu is a very powerful Savonti with powers that can crush you with a thought. His house is hidden deep in Redul and no stranger is allow to have the knowledge of how to get there. If somehow you learn where it is, he will kill you then move to a new location."
"Then I just might have an idea" Ozmun look crossed Mar and smiled. "Let's get inside where we can talk more. I think you might like my idea. I know Resu won’t."

It was night time in the former land of Resul and danger ruled the land. Since the night Daru had paid Resu a visit and taken him captive no one was safe. Not human nor Savonti. Daru had annexed the land and made it part his own. In the air Magu's warriors flew while warriors of many other lords hunted humans and the family and warriors the former lord. Day were no different. During its heat there was no where to hide. The mass of warriors had spread out and scared everything into a run for its life. These were dark days in Resul. But today things would be different.
It had been a long journey for Erlik Marcos and the one called Bandit. Gabor Gekko had taken Erlik aside after his meeting with the Gekko clan and offered him a mission. He was to leave the clan and contact as many clans and there leaders to gather support for Gabor's plan of war against the Savonti. Gabor needed men and weaponry. He needed spies to keep track of the various lords and their movements. He needed to learn of their different weaknesses and where and what each lords lairs defenses are. Along with Erlik traveled an academy student Councilor Den had suggested and thought highly of. Bandit the young man from one of Keanna's far eastern mountain ranges. Bandit was of a very old and beast like tribe of mountain people with very powerful magic. A close relative to the Werewolves, Bandit could shift to a bipedal ape like form with amazing strength and speed. He was the perfect companion to travel along and protect Erlik on this mission.
They went from Gekkol into Gukul then Povul the hot dessert lands. From there they moved into Katul and then Pulul the highlands. In each place they met and talked with different clan leaders. Some agreed and some were scared preferring to stay in hiding and on the run from the Savonti. Some were angry at Gabor feeling that his war would just stir up unnecessary trouble for the rest of them. Erlik pleaded and begged them to reconsider. Arguing that there were no unnecessary risk. These monster were using them all as food and a slave work force which was unacceptable. For them it couldn't get worse and it was time they put a stop to it. Some agreed and promised to lend there forces and some. Well some were so use to this life, they couldn't image it any other way. But Erlik knew that would change once they saw the fight Gabor and his allies could bring against the Savonti. And once the fight began, others would join. They would have to or die at the hands of their Savonti enemy.
Sweat ran down Bandits face as he pulled Erlik through the dense forest on a run. Behind them a group of Savonti warriors were right on their heels. Bandit had tried every trick he knew to throw them off the trail but nothing worked. Their Trackers had found their scent and there wasn't much they could do to get rid of them. He knew there was only one thing left for him to do. He had to fight to give Erlik a chance to get away. It wasn't what he wanted, but it may be there only chance.
"Erlik listen." Bandit pulled him closer as they kept running. "We have less then a two units lead on the warriors. Soon as we get to the clearing up ahead I want you to stay in the brush and head east toward Gekkol. I'll keep them here and give you time to get away. Don't stop or wait for me, you have to get the messages back to Gabor as soon as you can."
"No Bandit." Erlik pleaded. "We're in this together. I fight with you."
"If we get caught this whole trip was a waste." They stopped under a tree with the sound of the warriors crashing toward them. "We don't have time for this. Go now, get back home. Hurry!!"
With a howl Bandit began his shift and sprinted into the clearing to wait for his pursuers. As he ran he grew three feet in height and hair all over his body. No longer was he the brown haired academy cadet that protected Erlik. Now he was the savage looking long haired Wendigo of the far east mountains with claws and fangs ready to fight. Erlik looked back and saw the warriors enter the clearing as Bandit howled out his challenge. Determined to follow Bandits wishes, Erlik ran on. Home and help was only a day away. He hoped Bandit could hold up until then.

The sounds of the night and the smells of a strange unfamiliar forest roused Drake Tyr back to conscientiousness. He sat up and looked around confused as to what had happened and where he was. The last thing he remembered was sitting in the garden of the Manor. He had just woke his son Jandar from his long sleep and saw him and Jax off. Now here he was, but where was he? He looked around at his surrounding. The trees and foliage were all of a strange shade of purple like nothing he had ever seen before.
"What strange land is this?"
Drakes stood up and brushed the dirt from his long black coat and pants. As he looked out, he could sense the animal life all around him. It felt wrong. Like all his people Drake had a sense of the life around him. He could feel the vibe of the animal life and it was all completely wrong. Like he wasn't even on Keanna anymore.
With no idea where he was or where to go he shifted to wolf from and ran off into the forest. In the trees and on the ground he saw all kinds of strange animals like he had never seen before. Four winged birds and many horned purple deer like animals. He saw things swinging from the trees that he couldn't even guess at what they were.
After a drink at a lake he heard a loud howl echo through the trees. Drake's ears quickly perked to identify the direction it had come from. He knew the voices of his people and it was nothing like that, but it was a battle cry. That he knew. The howl reminded him of home and he wanted to know what it was. It came from the west so Drake turned west and took off in a run.
Through the crimson and purple forest Drake ran as the howling grew more severe. He could hear yelps and the sound of men yelling. there was a battle going on and whatever was howling, it didn't sound like it was winning.
After diving through a bank of growth Drake crashed into someone. There on the ground lay a young man dressed in some reddish colored hides. He looked at Drake with surprise and something else. It wasn't fear, Drake could smell that from a mile away. It was like he recognized him somehow. But that's impossible.
"Your a wolf?"
That word got his attention. How could he know what a wolf is? Unless....
[You have seen my kind before?] Drake asked inching closer.
"Your a Werewolf!!" The boy jumped to his feet after he received Drakes message. "I need your help and if your anything like the one I met before, You'll help me."
[The one you met before?] Drake sent. [What do you mean?]
"I don't have time to explain. Bandit needs your help right now. He's been attacked by Savonti warrior. Please you have to help him!"
[Where?]
"Through the trees there, there's a clearing." He pointed. "Hurry!!"
Putting his nose to the wind Drake caught the smell of blood. He could follow that smell anywhere.
[Stay here.]
Like a bolt of dark fury Drake shot through the forest to the east. The sound of battle grew louder and the howling began to sound more pained. At the edge of the clear Drake burst through the brush to find five tall green scaly monster men beating at what looked like a young brown furred werewolf. On the ground near them he saw two dead. Anger flared in Drake as he looked on. Like a demon he shifted to a black and silver furred man wolf and attacked. Claws slashed as Drake ripped into the reptilian men. In surprise they tried to fight back but they had no chance against the king of the Keanna Werewolves. The battle was over fast and seven Savonti warriors lay dead next to a young man dressed only in a pair of blue shorts. Drake looked down at him and knew immediately that this was no werewolf. But the symbol on his shorts he did recognize. It was the symbol of the Andrake Academy, the missing school from Winterhaven. As he bent to examine the boy, Erlik came running into the clearing. He rushed to Bandits side to check and make sure he was alright.
"Bandit?" Erlik splashed water from his water skin in his face. "Wake up"
Bandits eyes fluttered then opened. He looked up at Erlik and smiled then around at the dead warriors.
"I do that?" Erlik laughed and put the water skin to his mouth for him to drink. Bandit took a long drink then noticed there was someone else there with them. "You found help?"
"I found a Werewolf." Erlik and Bandit both looked up to Drake who had shifted to his normal form. Bandit sat up and looked closer. He looked familiar somehow.
"I'm Drake Tyr, you are?"
"I'm Bandit. This is Erlik. Your from Keanna." He painfully climbed to his feet with Erlik's help. "Back home? How did you get here?"
"Magic." Drake gripped his wrist in greeting. "Move slowly. You took a very bad beating from those things."
"They're called the Savonti." Erlik kicked out at a body laying in front of him. "Enemy to all the people here on Pentanthin. There hunting us."
"What are you doing out here alone?"
"Looking for help to fight them." Erlik looked back at the dead things on the ground. "The time of the White and Grey has finally arrived. My people are organizing to finally put an end to all the century's of being hunted and used as food for them. We were sent out to contact all the others to get them to join us. But they caught us. Thank the old ones you came along to help."
"Then we need to get somewhere safe. Can you walk?"
"I think so." Bandit flexed and stretched. Suddenly they heard the sounds of Trackers in the distance. The Savonti were still out there hunting. "We better get moving or more will find us. Come on and we'll tell you where you are and what you've stepped into. Where we're heading is not to far away and there's someone there we have to talk to."

"This has got to be the maddest most insane idea I have ever heard." Mar said from his tracker beside Ozmun. "There is no way on Pentanthin this will work."
"I think it's brilliant." Ozmun shrugged. "I can't imagine anyone but the Mind lord Daru would suspect anything like this."
"But he could." Mar countered, "Daru could be on to the whole plan."
"I don't think so. We do have protection from his mind probes." Ozmun tapped his shoulder where Shayn had placed the Salvation stone. "This will protect us."
"And how do we know this?" Mar asked.
"Because Daru hasn't found any of us." He was assured. "You know as well as I do that he has hundreds of warriors searching for us. The Academy is not far from his lands yet he hasn't found it. Kordova, Cutter and Blink can sense everything that comes within a few mile of the school and other then patrols that have missed us, nothing."
"Don't you find that odd?" Mar asked him curious. Ozmun knew what he meant. Daru was no fool and he was very powerful. It was strange that so far he hadn't even come close to finding any of them. But that could just be the great magic of the Academy. Blink's dark shroud that covered the Academy and it's surrounding area was great cover. And Cutter's fear barrier could keep everyone and anything away, but for how long? The Savonti had power to. Power just as great as his friends from Keanna. He just hoped there was nothing that could alert Daru to their plans.
"So what is the plan?" Mar asked as he looked around the dark forest of Redul. It had been a long time since his last visit to the mysterious land of Redul. His father had sent him there to negotiate with the reclusive Redu. A failed mission. He was ordered to spy and learn all he could about the recluse. The strength of his warriors and what abilities he had. Where exactly his lair was and what were his defenses. But Redu was the crafty one. He had revealed very little on that trip. All Mar learned was his house colors and that his ability had something to do with shadows. But what, he wasn't sure. With Lilia's senses and Blink's ability to search through all the dark corners of Redul, finding Redu's hidden lair had not taken long. Hidden deep in the dark dense forest amidst the wild things of Pentanthin lay the home of mighty Redu and his shadows.
"Your not going to like what I have planned." Ozmun smiled. "I don't really like it, but I think it will get us into Redu's lair without much of a fight. This is what I have in mind....."

Walking slowly with his head down, a lone Savonti warrior walked with his hands chained behind him. Around his neck he wore an intricate collar fashioned to suppress his abilities. It was connected to a chain held by his captor, a Savonti hunter who sat high riding a Tracker behind him. The warriors clothes were ripped and very dirty from his long run and the battles he had been fighting. His face was bruised and caked with mad. The once proud Mar had been caught and now he was on his way to be delivered to the lord Redu where he would be kept until his father Lesu could come and bring him back to his hone in Lesul.
As they moved through the quiet forest they both could feel eyes watching them from all around them. It was like the forest was alive almost and ready to grab at them. Things leaped in the growth watching at they moved.
Tripping on a rock, Mar stumbled and fell. The hunter yanked at the leash around Mar's neck and barked an order at him.
"Get up and move nagut!" The hunter hissed. "Or I'll beat you and drag you the rest of the way."
"Careful fool. You kill me and my father won't pay anything."
"Ha Ha!!" The hunter laughed. "Your fathers hate is great for you. I could deliver your head and still get paid well. So get up and walk or that is what I will do."
Mar got back to his feet and started walking on through the forest. Suddenly warriors leaped from out of the forest and surrounded them. Mar fell to his knees exhausted, he no longer cared what happened to him.
"Halt stranger." A warrior dressed in silver armor holding a staff stepped out to confront them. "What are you doing here in Redul?"
"Nazun." The hunter pounded his chest with his fist in salute. "I have been hired by Lord Lesu to hunt down this one and bring him home."
"Lesu does not rule here." The warrior said. "You have not answered why you are here hunter."
"I caught him on your lands." The hunter continued. "I seek an audience with your lord for rest and provisions to get back to Lesul."
"And what makes you think my lord Redu will oblige you? He is no friend to Lesu."
"Respect." The hunter leaned down to stare into the warriors face. "And information I have that lord Redu might find useful."
"What could a lowly hunter like you possibly know that might interest the Shadow lord." The asked his eyes narrowing as he looked up at the hunter. He aimed his staff at him. "Tell me."
"Kill me and your lord will never know." He smiled. "I've been through many lands on my hunt. I've heard and seen many things that might interest Redu. But my information is only for Redu, not for a lieutenants ears. Decide what you want to do now Warrior."
Behind to the left, something dark came out of the forest and slithered to the warrior. He was completely opaque. No light shined on him or from him. It was like he was made of shadow. He slipped quietly without a sound to the lieutenants side and whispered in his ear then slipped back into the dark forest.
"My lord will see you." He stepped back and turned to one of his comrades. "Bind their eyes then take the reins and lead them."
"There's no need for such precautions." The hunter called out. "I care not about the location of Redu's lair."
"Good." He heard as the hunters eyes were covered and his reins were taken. "Because if you did learn where our home is, it would mean your death. Now move out.

The courtyard of the Academy was filled with children playing. Children from the age of 12 to 16 ran and played with balls and any other game they could think of. Xan and Drella sat on the side under a strange green leafed tree with round orange fruit growing from it. They watched as Juelz played with a couple older children. Juelz marveled as he watched them do magic. They conjured strange visions of animals called dogs and cats. Juelz saw something they called horses and centaurs and longed for a ride on there backs.
"Isn't it wonderful here?" Drella smiled in Xan's arms as they watched the scenes the Cadets were making to show Juelz. "There home must be a beautiful place."
"Yes." Xan kissed her forehead. "A different place that's for sure."
"It looks so peaceful. No hunting and hiding or fear of being someones dinner. Can we go there someday?"
"We'll see." Xan smiled. "Drella I know its different but somethings there might be the same. People fear the unknown and I'll be different there. I may scare them."
"These children aren't afraid of you." She took his hand in hers. "They accept you. So does Juelz and me. What else matters?"
"Nothing else matters love." Xan hugged her close. "Your all I need. But Juelz needs a home and a real family. He's not safe with us."
Drella looked out at the small boy running with the cadets. She loved him and knew Xan and Mar only wanted what was best for him. It may be hard but with Lesu hunting them, It might be best for him.
"What are you thinking?" She asked.
"Maybe a home with one of the families of Gabor's clan." He suggested. "Or maybe here in the Academy, then he could get off Pentanthin and go with them back to there world."
"And what of us?"
"We belong here my love." Xan reached up and put his hand to her face lovingly. "Mar and I have responsibilities here. Something has to be done about the Savonti."
Drella smiled at her Savonti mate. She knew he was right.
As they lay there and watched, Lisette Testa stepped out of the Academy's front door. She looked exhausted. She took a deep breath then walked out and joined Xan and Drella under the orange tree. From the look in her eyes Drella could tell something was bothering her new friend. She wondered what it was.
"Aiya." Lisette smiled as she sat down.
"Nazun." Drella answered. "What troubles you, Lisette."
"Huh?"
"There's something bothering you." Drella put a hand to Lisette's shoulder. "What is it?"
"Its nothing." She shook her head as if to clear her thoughts. "Lately I've had a hard time concentrating on anything."
"Are you feeling well?" Xan asked.
"I feel fine." She smiled at them. "Just a bit worried about my son. Zarin and his friends are alone somewhere at home with a war going and his father and I are here on Pentanthin a long way from him."
"I see why your worried." Drella took her hand. "What kind of boy is he."
Lisette smiled when she thought of her son and her eyes lit up with pride. "Zarin. He was a student here. One of the top. All of his teachers sent home glowing reports on his progress. Professor Insa the head master had even taken a hand in his studies. He's very strong minded and a natural leader praised even by the kings of the Dragon clan Rage and Jandar."
"You sound so proud of him when you talk." Xan cut in. "He sounds very able to take care of himself. What makes you so worried?"
"The war." Fear crept back into her voice and on her face. "Back home our city was ruled by a peaceful council of mastermages. For hundreds of years the dark and the light magic lived side by side with neither one having control over everything. It kept things fair and equal and always at peace. But a council member, an evil master of the dark arts was able to grasp control and name himself as king of Winterhaven. Many died in the battle for control and when we came here with the Academy, Lord Larin was in control and all the neighboring lands were under threat."
"That's horrible." Drella cried with tear filled eyes. "I thought your home was such a land of wonder and magnificent people. You make it sound so scary."
"It is wonderful and magnificent with great minds and all different kinds of people. But there is evil too, just like here. There is no heavenly place if that's what you expect. But we are all fighting to keep our rights and freedom. And like everyone here on Pentanthin, that's all we want, right?"
"Peace and equality on Penthanthin." Xan stood and paced in front of the two woman. "Savonti will fight with their last breath to stop that from happening. They consider Penthanthin to be there's."
"All of them?" Lisette asked.
"All that I know of."
"Then maybe it's time to do something about that." Lowell Testa stepped out from behind the orange tree and greeted them. He took his wife in his arms for a kiss. "There's something you should know Xan. Walk with me."
Xan looked at the two women they moved away as he and Lowell walked off.
Unknown to them, a lone cadet watched from the side of the Academy wall. As he watched he chanted a spell. One of two spells he planned to use today. This spell was aimed at one of the two women. The target of the spell was Lisette Testa, mother of his worst enemy. The target of the second spell he planned to use was to be a much younger victim. The youngest new member at the Academy.
But right now he had to get back to his room. There should be people waiting there to see him if Rush had done what he had been told.

Through twists and turns the warriors led Mar and the Hunter until neither could tell north from south or east from west. With there eyes covered they were traveling in absolute darkness which confused the Hunters excellent sense of direction. The Hunter had tried counting turns and times between turns but there were to many for him to keep out with and eventually he was lost. They traveled long into the night until finally they stopped and the was ordered down off his Tracker.
"You can remove your blindfold. We have arrived."
Mar's eyes were uncovered as the Hunter reached up and took off his blinds. Blinking to clear his vision, the Hunter looked around to try and see where they where. Before him was a great mountain of rock covered in shadows. But that was all the Hunter saw. Nothing he could use to identify where they were.
"What is this?" He said. "Have you led us here to die?
"Perhaps." The warrior said standing at the base of the great cliff. "And perhaps not."
Turning away towards the rock wall the warrior reached into his belt and took something out. He rubbed it and it began to glow in his hand. He held it up and placed it against the stone wall and stepped back. Suddenly the walls began to shake and vibrate. As Mar and the Hunter watched the wall began to open up. Slowly it slid apart to reveal a entrance right into the mountain lined with torches.
"My lord awaits." The warrior signaled them to enter. "Leave your Tracker, they will be cared for."
The Hunter nodded and walked to Mar and pushed him in ahead of him. Mar turned and hissed at him in defiance but did as he was told and went in. As they went in the walls closed behind. Mar looked at the Hunter his brow raised than went on following the warriors that were leading them.
Though the entrance was something new to both of them, the lair was nothing different then any other lords. They passed through many halls and corridors that showed the many different sections of a lords lair. Quarters for warriors, kitchens, dinning rooms, great halls and all. They saw many slaves of both human and Savonti working here doing many tasks and something different. Something strange. Dark shadows that slipped all around them. The Hunter wonder what is was that Redu had here in his lair.
They even passed pleasure rooms where they could both hear the screams of the pleasure slave. Mar cringed at the sound of the screaming. He wanted to be free of his bonds and attack to free those suffering here.
[Calm yourself Mar. Not like this.]
He looked back at the Hunter and nodded then turned and trudged on.
"So this is the great house of Redu." The Hunter looked around. "Impressive. As is the lord I would expect."
"Lord Redu Is the greatest of all the lords." The warrior pointed out. "He is the envy of them all as you will soon see."
"Indeed." Smiled slyly at the warriors back. "Tell me warrior. What are you called?"
"I am Blu." He answered. "Chief of Redu's warriors. I will be my responsibility for you while you are here which I assume won't be long."
"Never assume." The hunter muttered under his breath.
"What are you called Hunter?"
"You can call me Ozm." He told him. "When do I meet your lord?"
"When he is ready to see you." Blu turned and entered a sparsely furnished room. It was dark and warm as all Savonti lairs were. The only furnishing in the room was a cot and one chair made for a Savonti and a table.
"You will wait here." Blu said. "The is a empty room where you can lock your prisoner while you wait. Food will be sent here for you I will arrange for what you will need. I warn you. Stay here until lord Redu calls for you. Understand?"
"I do." Ozm pushed Mar in to land on his back on the floor then pointed to the spare room. "Get in there."
Mar got up to his feet and limped into the room. Ozm slammed the barred door shut then turned back to Blu. "Lord Lesu will not forget what you have done for him."
Blu huffed then closed the barred door and left. Ozmun stepped up and watched him moved down the hall and off into the lair.
"He's gone." Ozmun opened the door and let Mar out of his cell. "I'll get you out of the chains."
"No need." Mar held out his arms and shook them. The chain cuffs fell to the ground. Ozmun looked at them amazed. Those cuffs had been locked tight in case Blu had checked them.
"That is a useful skill." Ozmun smiled.
"It won't get us out of here." Mar walked and looked out the bars down the hall. All was quiet. "You know the doors locked."
"I expect it is." Ozmun pulled out the chair and sat down leaning back comfortably. "It doesn't matter. They'll let us out to talk with Redu when he's ready."
"You better pray this works Ozmun." Mar's tail twitched nervously as he went back to relax and meditate in his cell. "Cause if it doesn't, we're both be on his dinner table very soon."

"I don't understand this." Rue Tasco said as he walked through the halls with Delan Rainer and Rush Delion. "How is it possible your roommate has news of our sons back home?
"Paolo was pretty close to them when they were here at school." Rush explained. "He's found a way to contact them from here. Don't ask me how. I think it's a miracle."
"Then let us get our wives." Delan pleaded. "They'll want to talk to them to. They've been so worried."
"Why don't we wait and make sure Paolo can make the connection first. I'd hate to get they're hopes up and it doesn't work."
"Yes that's a good idea." Rue shook his head. "Lorea would be crushed and cry for a week if it fails. I don't want that to happen again."
"Then let's not put them through it right now." Rush stopped at a door to a dorm room. "Here we are."
He opened the door and waved them in. At the desk sat a handsome brown haired boy in the uniform of a cadet. He turned and smiled flashing icy blue eyes and stood.
"You must be Craven and Dack's fathers." He stepped closer and reached out to grasp their arms to greet them. "Aiya. I'm pleased to meet you."
"Is it true?" Rue asked. "Can you really contact our sons back on Keanna?"
"I can show them to you right now if you want." Paolo smiled a wicked grin at them.
"Show us." Rue and Delan stepped closer to Paolo. "Please."
"As you wish." Paolo held out his hand and showed them the gleaming ring on his finger. "Gaze into my ring and open your minds to me. Let me show you your greatest wish."
Rue Tasco and Delan Rainer stood transfixed as they stared down into the flashing magic beaming out from the ring. There eyes glazed over as the magic to hold and Tabor took control of there wills.
"That's right." He smiled. "Your both now under my control and will do anything I ask. Your will is mine."
"What is your wish?" They stammered in unison. The spell had a strong hold on them.
"Bring me Lisette Testa. Wait until she's alone then tell her I found a way to show you where your sons are and can show her to. Get her quietly back to this room alone. Now go."
Both men looked up at him.
"Yes sir." They turned and left on their mission.
Paolo smiled. He loved the idea of his enemies working for him. It was to bad it wasn't Zarin and the others. He would love it if they were here so he could make them pay for all they had done to him. But he could work with what had. He didn't have much choice.

The screams and the crying of slaves kept Ozmun awake all night. He could barely concentrate to stay in his Savonti form. He had been holding it all day and knew he had to drop it to rest. He stood up and walked back to Mar's cell where he could hide and rest when a sound from out in the hall stopped him. Foot steps. They were moving toward him. Quickly he rushed back to his cot and sat down just as Blu appeared at his door. Ozm stood and stepped to the barred door.
"The master will see you now." He fit a key into the door and opened. Ozm stepped out and looked back at Mar's cell door.
"My prisoner should come with me."
"He is safe here." Blu held the door open waiting.
"You don't understand who he is." Ozm needed Mar with him for this confrontation with Redu. "This is Mar first son of Lord Lesu. He is not one to be ignore and he must be watched by me at all times. Lesu will not be responsible for what happens if he escapes and brings down this lair."
A shadow slipped in and in a blink and whispered to Blu, they was gone. Ozmun barely saw it it moved so fast.
"Very well." Blu told him. "Bring him."
Ozm returned to his room and opened the cell door. Mar stepped out still wearing the collar of obedience.
"Walk in front of me."
Mar nodded and followed behind Blu and two more of Redu's warriors. They moved through the lair moving higher to the top levels. No words were passed between them as they walked. Ozmun was very tired from holding his Savonti form. He hoped this would be done quickly but wasn't sure if he had the strength for a battle.
Finally Blu stopped at a great door. this had to be the entrance to Redu's private audience hall.
"Redu waits inside." Ozm nodded and Blu signaled the two warriors to pull open the two massive doors. With Mar in the front, Ozm followed him in.
Finally Blu stopped at a great door. This had to be the entrance to Redu's private audience hall."Redu waits inside." Ozm nodded and Blu signaled the two warriors to pull open the two massive doors. With Mar in the front, Ozm followed him in.
As they walked down the hall the sound of cheering crowds echoed in to assail their ears. Mar looked over to Ozm with a puzzled looked. Something was wrong. This was not going to be a private audience.
"I think we're in trouble."
From behind, Redu's warriors pushed them on to keep walking. A few feet down the hall ended and they walked into a vast underground stadium. The stadium was set in a high domed chamber carved from the granite rock of the walls. With three tiers full of Redu's warriors there to see the scheduled gladiatorial like games.
As they waited at the entrance, four warriors battled in the center of the stadium. Two with staffs and two with blades. All around then there was blood and body parts from the previous battles. From the stands warriors stood cheering. The sounds and smells of battle was overwhelming for the Savonti around them. Many of the warriors wanted to leap down and join in fighting but Redu had forbid any interference.
Crossing staffs with grim looks on their faces, they battled. One swung his blade end around making his opponent leap back as he thrust the blunt end in at his opponents midsection. With a quick block, the warrior leaped high and stabbed down slicing into opponents chest. Blood flowed as the warrior fell. Landing at his side not giving his opponent time to get up. The warrior used the blunt end and crushed his opponents skull ending there fight. He stepped aside to watch as the other fight went on.
Back and forth the two fought. You could see their wounds where both of them had been cut many times during their battle. With a loud battle cry, the taller of the two charged in to force his opponent into a block, but instead he stood his ground and waited for the attack. Ducking down,he thrust out with both swords as his opponent passed and sliced a long gash across the chest and one across his leg cutting right through the muscles bringing him crashing to the ground. As the warrior turned to finish him off the grounded warrior tried without success to get back up on his feet. Feeling his superiority, the standing warrior raised his arms in triumph as the crowd cheered him on. That was where he made his mistake. Just because the warrior was down, it didn't mean he was out of the fight. Never turn your back on an opponent in a life and death battle.
Grabbing his blade the warrior waited until his opponent turned back to face him the sent it flying through the air to sink hilt deep in the warriors throat. Surprised, he staggered back trying to pull the sword free, but it didn't help. As blood gushed from his throat the warrior fell gasping for air where he died. The crowd went wild cheering as the warrior pulled a staff to him and got to his feet to stand before his lord.
"Lacidi my warriors" Redu stood raising his wine in salute to the winners. "You are victorious my warriors and now you shall be rewarded. Come forward to me and accept your reward."
Reaching out to help his fellow warrior, Rel put his are around Fet and helped him to make his way to stand in front of Lord Redu.
Redu put down his cup and stepped down to the rail of his balcony suite in the stands. A hush came over the crowd as they all wanted to hear Redu's pronouncement.
"From now on you Rel shall be one of my private guards." Redu took from a table at his side a silver arm guard that all the Warriors in his guard wore. He held it out and a shadow moved out from a corner and took it from his hand. As they watched it leaped from the balcony and landed at Rel's feet and dropped it. "Put this on and it will bind you to me. My shadows will always be with you from then on."
"I am honored my Lord." Rel bowed and stepped back.
"You battled well Fet." Redu leaned forward to address the wounded warrior. "But I know you to well. I know all about your weakness for humans and the mercy you have shown in battle to enemies. You think me blind? Nothing happens in Redu without me knowing about it. Your wound makes you weak. You are not worthy to be in my house now. I will make your death honorable."
Fet stood tall leaning on the staff. His wound no longer bleed and would heal well in the days to come. Death was not the prize he thought he deserved for his win. As for his compassion in battle, It was not a sign of weakness, It was his way to honor his enemy. He had come to realize long ago that humans were more then cattle. Much more then food and deserved honor just as the Savonti did.
"You have no idea what honor is." Fet shouted up at him. "All you and many other lords want is blind obedience from those that serve you. You do nothing for us. Your people fight for scraps to feed on. You do not deserve to be a lord. If only there was someone powerful enough to challenge you and worthy enough to rule. There are many here that would support them."
Redu stared down at Fet as his shadows began to seep out of every dark corner and gather around him. His warriors all stepped back in fear of his rage and power.
"I am not afraid of you or your shadows Redu." Fet reached down and picked up the staff. "I'll challenge you if no one else will."
Redu laughed at him.
"You? Wounded as you are will fight me? You would not stand a chance."
"We will challenge you!"
All heads turned and watched as Mar and Ozm were escorted to stand in front of Redu. No one made a sound as they confronted the Lord of Redul.
"Who would dare come here to my lair to threaten me? Daru the Mind Lord? Lesu and his evil stare? Who?"
"The same ones the took the house of Fedru and killed it's lord." Ozm answered. "You are about to be threatened by the Grey and the White."
"Daru's human enemy?" Redu laughed a deep chest erupting laugh. "I fear no human!! I fear no army of humans!! I am the mightiest of Savonti lords. My shadows fear nothing!!"
"Nothing?" Ozm stepped out to stand before Redu's balcony. "There are things that no shadow can stand against."
"What is that little hunter?" Redu smiled at them. "Your lord? Can he threaten me?"
"No." Mar said as he held up his chained arms. In a flash of light the chains snapped and fell open, Mar tossed them to the floor at the foot of the throne. Then he reached up and tore off the collar. "Lesu won't be a threat to you. But freedom will!"
"You dare to threaten me?" Redu stood and laughed at them. He walked down from his place in the stands confront them.  "I may not be close to your father but I've heard of his powerless armauk son Mar. And you, hunter. What threat can you be to the Lord Redu?"
"We are here at the orders of the Grey and White." Ozmun shouted out. dropping his Savonti form. "I am no hunter Redu. I am human. And I have power to!!"
Ozmun spread his arms and began to shift. His arms grew long and scaled with long claws. A tail and wings grew and he took the form of a dragon Shayn had taught him to perfect. Redu grabbed his scepter and jumped down from his throne.
"I have power too human!" Out of the darkness around them something moved. Many somethings and they began to streak all around the chamber. Like ghost they would streak in and lash out to strike Mar. With lightning like reflexes he dodged most of the blows and struck back. Once his eyes were use to the dark he could see them. They were shadow clones of Redul, fast and very strong. Like shadows they were almost impossible to hit. But when they were trying to hit him, they were solid enough. With an enemy to fight, Mar began to rip into them. Like dark versions of Redu they attacked, one by one and in force. His probability abilities fought on with him like a tark causing the shadows to trip and stumble and fall into his punches and kicks. They slipped on bloody spots on the floor to fall into his hands where they were tore apart.
In the center of the stadium, Redu faced Ozmun in a man sized dragon form. With his wings spread Ozmun rose into the air. Redu clutched his scepter and fired bolt after bolt at him.
"Surly you can't think you will win against me." Redu shouted at Ozmun. "Look at your friend there, he tires from battling my shadows. He has destroyed many, but as long as it's dark I can keep creating as many as I need. Soon they will bring him down. Then they'll just be you staz. Then what will you do?"
Ozmun knew he was right. Mar was being overwhelmed by all of Redu's shadows and he had put almost everything into taken this dragon form. He couldn't hold it for to much longer and then the shadows would have them. He needed a way to end this fight fast. But how? In this darkness Redu would always have shadows to fight. But what if he could take away the darkness? What if he could provide his own light. What was it Shayn had taught him of this dragon form? It breathed fire. It was time to give it a try.
From high up, Ozmun narrowed his wings and dived at Redu. Redu sent his stun bolts at him and they burned with pain. He took a deep breath and felt something burning in his chest. Below he saw Redu's face take on a confident look of success. He raised the scepter for a point blank blast and Ozmun let go of everything he had. Flames erupted from his maw engulfing Redu and lighting up the whole chamber. Spreading his wings to stop his dive, he began to beat them quicker to hold his place in the air as his flames burned down on the Savonti lord. Redu screamed in pain and burned in the intense heat of the dragon fire.
All around Mar the shadow clones disappeared as Redu burned. He stumbled a few steps and screamed once more then fell in a burning hump to the floor. Completely spent, Ozmun shifted and fell to the floor exhausted. Mar rushed to his side and lifted him into a sitting position.
"By my fathers death stare you did it!!" Mar smiled down at him. Ozmun looked at the burning body of Redu next to the throne. He had done it. But they weren't done. With everyone watching they knew they could be attacked at any second.
"What say you warriors of Redu." Mar stepped out to address then all. "Your lord has been defeated by a human. A human with power greater then his. You have a choice now, You can stand with us and become a land that can help lead the Savonti into the future or you can all burn as the prophesy foretold the fall of the Savonti. The choice is yours to make."
"What do you think?" Ozmun asked. "Will they accept?"
"Some will, some won't." Mar shrugged. "We'll just have to be very careful"
"I accept." Fet limped over to join them. "I have heard of you Mar son of Lesu. Your father looks to bring you home for execution. If you will lead us. I will accept."
"As will I." Rel threw down Redu's silver arm guard. "The time has come for change in the Savonti."
"There will be many changes." Mar told them. "The humans will all be freed and accepted as equals. I will forbid anyone from using them from here on as food. We will live with them in peace. Do you still accept?"
"We accept." Fet held out his hand to Ozmun. They shook as a cheer went up through the stadium.
"Then let it be known that Redu is dead!" Rel held up Mar's hand. "Redul is dead. From here on this land will be called Marul. Long live Lord Maru!"

The Council of Lords. 47

The twin suns of Pentanthin burned high as madness reigned in the land of Darul. All slaves and workers of Lord Daru were busy preparing for his coming conference of Savonti Lords. Daru wanted his house cleaned to perfection. He wanted to impress all the other lord showing his house to be greatest of all houses. His mines and armories were to be guarded from intrusion by any lord. His slave were also to be cleaned and and presented as the strongest. His warriors had been ordered to clean and polish all armor and weaponry. He wanted nothing left out of place for the lords to judge him harshly on since it was his plan to make Darul the capital of the Savonti people. Even if it mean turning all the other lords into one of his slaves.
As Daru walked about inspecting the work in the meeting hall, Lord Magu came flying in to land at his side.
"I'm impressed." Magu said folding his wings back and looking around. "It looks almost as great as my stack."
"Almost?" Daru huffed at the thought. "You petty house was nothing compared to mine."
"Whatever you say." Magu smiled slyly reaching into a small cage on the table and grabbing a small rodent snack. "I expect the feast will be better then this."
Set on the table was a number of cages holding a variety of animals for the hungry lords to snack on while they talked. There was also strong blood wine and a bread made from a mixture of grain and bone. A delicacy prized by the Savonti.
"Feeding these fools is not why they come. But there will be sufficient refreshments."
"Good because you guest are arriving." Magu pointed out the window to five Tracker beast with riders as they approached the gates of the house of Daru. Pushing back the curtains Daru watched as Lord Paru and his warriors rode in through the gates. They were met by one of Lord Daru's house staff who bowed and pointed the way to one of the outer building were Lord Paru would be housed during his visit.
"Where are they being sent?" Magu asked.
"There are a number of buildings prepared for the visiting Lord." Daru told Magu as they watched Paru ride off. "I don't mind them on my land where I can watch them. But not under my roof."
"Who do you trust?" Magu laughed before pushed the scared furry creature into his mouth and swallowing it alive.
"I trust no one." Daru dropped the curtains closed and walked to his seat at the head of the long table. "If your smart, you won't either."
Chuckling Magu flexed his wings and shook them out. He turned and walked to the balcony to leave.
"Let me know when each lord approaches my gate. Especially Lesu, him I would greet myself."
"Of course." Magu bowed and opened the curtain to take off when Lord Daru called him back.
"Magu." He called. [Don't forget I hear every thought for miles. Betray me with even a thought and you will suffer the same fate as the ex lord Resu. Remember that.]
"You have my loyalty Mind lord." Magu nodded then opened his wings and launched himself into the sky and was gone.
With Magu gone Daru closed his eyes and called out to his queen Trela in her apartment. In her hot sands she lay naked reading the lines of magic of the future.
[Trela.]
[Yes my lord.]
[Have you any news of the enemy?]
[There are many Daru.] She answered. [Of which do you speak?]
[I would have news of them all.]
[Then I must warn you that enemies approach even now. Beware of these so called allied lords that will soon be here.]
[Have no fear my queen. I watching them at all time, even in their sleep. If any threaten us I can crush most of them in a si. My worry is the strangers. What of them?]
[Ahhhh!! The white and grey.] The words purred in his mind. [They are powerful. But they are not the only powerful ones out there. Heed my advice Daru. All humans are dangerous in these days whether they have power or not. Remember it was a weak powerless human that killed Fedru and he was very powerful. Do not underestimate them My lord, for it could mean our end.]
[I fear no human.] He sent to her. [Human's fear me. Find the white and grey. I want to know where they are. I need to know now.]
[As you wish My lord.]
Daru opened his eyes and thought about what Trela had said. He knew so was right but without the white and grey, no human could be a threat to the powerful Lord Daru. Not on Pentanthin. Not at this time or any other as long as he was a lord.
[Daru.] Magu interrupted his thoughts. [Lesu comes and others follow.]
[Good.] Daru's mouth curved into an evil smile. [Show them to the hall. I will be there shortly.]
Daru's lair was an underground group of caves that went down many levels. On the top level was housed the slave and worker quarters. Daru's overseers rooms and the stables where his Trackers were housed. The next five levels housed his staff and work areas were all his weapons were made. Below that housed Daru's minor queens and his children. Also on that level to show contempt was his Meeting halls. There he would sit in judgement over all those in his house and the minor Savonti that lived on his lands in smaller cave holds. On this level Daru would be greeting his guest. He had had a huge chamber heated and set with comfortable couches and sand pits for his guest. Cloth of the deepest black, Daru's house color covered the furniture while his walls were all painted blood red. Food live and cooked was set on his magnificent tables made of brightly polished gems and stones. There were small caged nagats and grey and brown fanged mugits. Fruits and vegetables sliced and placed in bowls of a brown spiced liquid that could only be blood. Against the wall there were larger cages containing the main course. Young men and women Daru himself picked to be served for his guest dinner.
Heat and steam from the lava tubes that ran through the whole lair filled the chamber making it comfortable for the lords as Magu lead the first group in. Walking next to the sky lord was the red eyed always anger Lesu in deep red robes. his mind was not on the meeting with Daru. He thoughts were on his two renegade sons and where they could be found. He had put a large bounty on their heads but only one Savonti lord had found them, and it seemed they were to strong for even the mighty Magu to hold on to. They had destroyed Magu's stalagmite lair and escaped before Lesu could arrive. Now his hope was on the hunter Loc to find them. And he better succeed fast. Behind Lesu came Paru the fire lord in yellow with smoke seeping from his nostrils as he followed them. Paru from the far south had come a long way like Lesu for the second time to hear what Daru had to say. Along with Ketu in gold they were all tired and in a very agitated mood. It wasn't wise to have all these lords in one place. Wars were started this way. Lesu thought this was probably just what Daru was hoping for, an easy way to rid himself of his enemies.
[Relax Lesu.] Daru's mind touched Lesu's. [They'll be no fighting in my home. We have all signed the temporary truce. We have more important enemies to discuss here.]
Lesu grumbled and stepped into the hall and looked around at Daru's lavish setting. He was not impressed at all.
"Will you all take a seat and make yourself comfortable." Magu waved them in. "Food and recreation is available ti you all. Daru provides whatever you need for your stay."
"I will not be staying long." Paru stepped to the table and picked through the caged of muguts for a plump one. He opened his mouth and pushed it squealing in and swallowed. "I am not comfortable here. It's cold."
"Daru will be here soon once everyone has arrived." Magu explained. "Until then, I suggest you make yourself comfortable. If you wish to rest, commendations have been made."
"Daru thinks me stupid if he thinks I would sleep in his lair." Lesu folded his arms and moved to the window.
"Suit yourself." Magu flexed his wings. "But you have your own men to guard you and Daru has given his word. For this night you are safe in Darul. Your choice.
As Magu talked the giant statue of Pulu ducked and stepped into the chamber. He was dressed in brown armor with no weapon at his side. They had all been forbidden to enter the lair with weapons. Not that it matter. These were powerful lords and none of them needed weapons to defend themselves. Behind Pulu came Guku and Dicu, brothers followed by the Memu the wild lord that roamed the north.
"Where is Seru?" Guku asked looking around.
"Yes, where is that lovely harlot." Dicu smiled his tongue slid across his lips. "I was hoping to be entertained by her tonight."
"Detained." Came a voice from the north side of the chamber as Daru stepped out. "Unfortunately she wouldn't listen to my warning and her house is being invaded as we speak."
"What?" Guku rushed pass the enormous Pulu and moved to face Daru. "And you did nothing to help her?"
"She refused my help. All of you have a seat so we can talk." Daru walked down pasted him in his black robes and sat at the head of the table. As he watched his guest took their places. "Question is will you go the same way? Will any of you, or will we fight to rid ourselves of this new enemy."
"This white and grey myth you speak of." Lesu sneered at Daru in disbelief.
"They are real!" Magu slammed his fist into the table. "You think your sons had the power to bring down my entire stack? His either of them ever shown you such power? I had in my cells a human thing that had such power. And he was not alone. He had help, powerful help. Believe my words Lesu, this white and grey are powerful enough to destroy us all."
"His words are true." Daru sat up looking at them all. "But we are Savonti lords and a power in our own. together we can defeat the new comers if we work together. Now it's all up to you. Do we stand or do we fall?"
Silence filled the room as they all took in what was said. Daru could see the fear in some of their eyes and the disbelief in others. Magu was known to be Daru's lap dog and would follow his lead. Memu would probably also follow suit. This Lesu knew from the first meeting. But Pulu and Paru would side with him and so would Resu if he had shown up. Lesu wondered what had happened to the lord of strength. None if the messages he had sent him had been answered and the goods Lesu had expected from him had never shown. Could it be the white and grey had already paid him a visit, or was Daru responsible. Either way Lesu would have to be very careful from here on. This white and grey was probably not the only threat he had to worry about. He would have a talk with Guku and and his brother, he just may need a few allies Daru didn't know about. For now he would go along with Daru and his plans. But he would keep his deadly eyes open and his spies on alert.
"I will follow you for now lord Daru." Lesu stood and pushed back his chair. "But know this, I am watching."
Daru smiled and stood, his plans were coming together just as Trela foretold. Now all he had to do was find the white and grey and deal with them. Of course during the fight there would be casualties, some of these lords would fall and their lands would be open to be taken over. Daru would make sure of that. Soon he would rule all of the Savonti and none of them could stop him.
"Then we have much to discuss." Daru sat back looking pleased. "There are many things we need to do if we want to stay masters of Pentanthin."
"And I assume you have it all planned out?" Paru reached into the cage in the center of the table and grabbed a fat mugit. It screeched as the heat began to radiate cooking it in his hand. He popped it into his mouth and swallowed. "What would you have us do?"
"I want the humans running in fear." Daru told them. "I want them all rounded up and put in stables in all of our lands. The days of humans running free are over. I want them all under control from now on."
"That won't be easy." Memu said. "There are quite a lot of them. And some with abilities too. They will fight back."
"Does that scare you Memu?"
"I fear no human Mind lord." Memu stared at Daru intensely.
"Good." Daru nodded. "Since you have no set home in your lands I want you and your warriors to drive them to Redul. I give you permission to enter my lands under the watchful eyes of my warriors of course. I expect the others will to."
"Magu." He turned to the winged Sky lord. "You and your warriors will do the same from the air. Lesu, I know you have many finely trained hunters in your lands. We can use them. I want you all to do the same. It will be like the great Nevac hunts of old. I will be focusing on the powerful humans, they need to be under our control. Any questions?"
Daru looked around at each of them. Some looked suspicious, some looked eager or afraid, but none of them spoke up. That was good. They would all be occupied leaving him free to do as he pleased. His only problem would be Lesu. He knew Lesu and his spies would be watching. He'll deal with them at the right time.
"Now we eat." Rubbing his hands together Daru turned to the cages against the wall. As they saw the Savonti looking at them hungrily the men and women began to scream.

High in the dark ceiling above the torches gleaming eyes watched as Daru and the other Lords took pleasure in torturing and feeding on their victims. As much as he wanted to there was no way Sacar could help or save the poor men and women screaming for their lives so he turned his gaze away from the horrors below him. Flashes of the hunt tore threw him as he held himself in place in the rafters. The screams reminded him so much of those days of slaughter.
[This has to end.] He thought to himself. [They must be stopped. Maybe it's time I meet the white and grey myself.]

Creeping quietly through the swamp Avres, Oathes and Heca approached the entrance to Seru's den. The trap door entrance was closed and there was no way they could pry to open and get in without being noticed even though they were invisible to the naked eye. Someone from inside would have to open the door to allow them in. That didn't seem likely to the Nevac standing at the door. They would have to think of a way to draw them out. As they stood there waiting the sounds of the swamp grew louder. Smells of decay and rot wafted through the night air. Avres sensed movement just beyond the trees and signaled the others to get back and hide. As they watched a creature much like an alligator only furred came slowly creeping out of the mud and shook the moisture from its fur. It was a Corjo. A dangerous slow moving creature highly prized on Pentanthin for it's delicious meat. Corjo's were very slow on land but in the water they moved with unbelievable speed. Savonti and human hunted them very carefully for their sight in the dark and in water was acute. They hunted with all senses including vibrations in the water and smell on land. Though creatures of water the mated and gave birth only on land with was usually the only time they were vulnerable to be hunted.
As the Nevac watched a group of six came slowly crawling past. There noses in the air for the scent of enemies. Watching them past Avres heard a creaking sound. He looked back to the entrance to Seru's den and saw the door was opening and men were coming out to hunt.
[HURRY!] Avres sent as he leaped up and sprinted for the entrance. Invisible, they quietly subdued the men and bound them to trees near Gabor's camp where they could be kept safe and quiet. Then they slipped in and found two men waiting gearing up to join the hunt. Silently Bokus and Oathes crept forward without alerting the men. With quiet strikes the men were knocked out, tied up and put safely with the others.
[HOW MANY HUMANS ARE DOWN THERE?] Bokus asked. [WE CAN'T FIGHT THEM ALL, SOMEONE WILL DIE IF WE MOVE ON HER.]
[THEN SING COUSINS.] Avres told them. [PUT ALL THE HUMANS TO SLEEP AND WE'LL ONLY HAVE THE SAVONTI TO FIGHT.]

Several levels down the lady on the house lay and watched as naked slaves fought in their arena cage for her pleasure. She loved the sight of their muscles flexing as they fought. The blood on the sands, the final kill. Sometimes she would have up to ten battles a night to entertain her with the survivor winning her ultimate prize. A night of wild sex then death, and a place on her dinner table.
As the cold lady of the house watched on the edge of her seat, the fighting began to slow down. The to men fighting looked exhausted. Like they could barely stand of lift their blades to fight. Seru jumped to her feet and looked around. Men began dropping to the ground one after the other. She looked back to the battle to find her gladiators laying prone in the sands.
"What is this?" She yelled stepping down from her viewing box. "Kan! What is the meaning of this?"
A Savonti warrior dressed in the purple tunic of her house stepped out from out of the tunnels to her slave pits.
"They are all like this Lady Seru." He shouted. "They all sleep. I don't understand."
"I do." Seru reached over a picked up her staff. "We are under attack. Daru comes to take my house from me. Well if he wants war, he shall have it. Arm yourself and the others. Send messages to Dicu and Guku that I am under attack. one of those two fools will send help. Now hurry. Daru can't be far off. There's not much time."
Slamming his fist to his chest in salute, Kan hurried off to follow her orders. Seru flexed her claws to form a drop of poison at the tip.
"Daru thinks me weak cause I don't have many Savonti warriors." She smiled. "He'll see how wrong he is."
Laughing she hurried off to let loose he secret weapon. A weapon she was sure would be enough to protect her until the others arrived. Then the arrogant lord would see who the weak one was.

The halls of the house of Seru were very quiet. No slaves roamed the halls out to please their mistress. There didn't seem to be much here alive. But Avres and his cousins knew better. The smell of Savonti was strong in the air and another strange scent none of them could identify. From what the human woman said there weren't many here, but Seru would have strong lieutenants, there was no doubt of that. And who knew what else that evil bitch might have down there.
Quietly Avres and his cousins moved through the stagnant smelling moss covered caves. Oathes hated it here So did the others. They were use to a clean environment, not the filth that some of the Savonti lived with. Bones littered the cave floor. Those of human and animals that they caught. Seru it seemed didn't care how clean her home was. Her only real care was the number of slaves and what she held as trade to other lords. She had no mines to mine and no fields for her slaves to tend. What she did have was a strong breeding stock of humans. It was known among the Savonti that Seru's slaves were the strongest and most fit of any of the lords. Good for food, work and games of many different types and the Savonti loved there games. Physical and sexual.
Though there were no humans wake, strange sounds could be heard all through the tunnels. Grunting noises, sometimes strange growls. Avres wondered what Seru had down here other then Savonti and humans. He figured they would find out soon enough since to in two more levels they would be in her personnel apartment. Sending Oathes and Heca down towards the kitchen and the slave pens, Avres moved on to the stairs the would lead them down to Seru's quarters. It was time to put and end to the poisonous Lady of Serul. It was time for the Nevac to have some revenge at last.

With staff in hand and a Savonti sword at their side, two Savonti warriors made their way through the slave pens. It was very quiet here accept for and occasional growl that echoed through the halls. Neither of the two warriors had spotted and of Daru's warriors yet, but they knew something had made it into the lair. The tied up humans had been found at the cave entrance. It was strange they thought that the humans were still alive. Surely Daru's warriors would have killed them and taken the bodies away. Savonti never wasted food and these were to heavily muscled strong men, enough to feed at least five warriors for a day.
Torches placed every six feet burned spaced along the walls. Carefully the Serul warriors made their way through the pen area watching for the slightest movement. Claws were ready and even though there were only a few, Seru's warriors would fight fiercely for her.
A sudden noise to the left made one of the warriors send a blast from his staff at a shadow between a row of cages. Naguts came running out of the shadows scattering to escape. Relaxing they moved on thinking this was all just a false alarm. Maybe Seru's hold on her human's was finally slipping and some had escaped tying the others up to keep them from revealing their escape plan.
Suddenly out of no where, something hit one of the warriors knocking him to the floor. Holding his staff out ready to blast anything that moved, the standing warrior scanned all around looking for whoever had hit his companion. There was nothing there. As the warrior climbed to his feet and reached for his weapon, he was hit again in the back of his head sending him flat lace down.
"WHAT GOES ON HERE?" He yelled on his knees. "Who fights us?"
"I see nothing!!" Frantically he stared blasting randomly. "Get up and help me!"
A blow cracked the warrior in his face knocking him on to his back sending his staff rolling across the floor. As the warriors watched, the staffs lifted off the floor and pointed at them. Wide eyes they stared at the blast end of two staff as they powered up ready to be fired.
"Mercy!!" The warriors cried. "Please Lord Daru, we can help you take Lady Seru. Just grant us mercy!!"
"You people never granted us any mercy when you hunted to down." A voice said in a strange tone. "So we return the favor."
"NOOOOO!!!!!"
Blast after blast ripped into the two warriors killing them and tearing them apart. As the smoke cleared nothing was left of them except two staffs and scattered body parts of two Savonti warriors.
[OUR REVENGE BEGINS.] Oathes said proudly as he kicked the head of a warrior. [DEATH TO THE SAVONTI!!]

In the dimly lit halls of Serul, Avres carefully made his way into Seru's private rooms. Unlike the rest of her lair, her rooms were immaculate. Not only was it clean but it was the most brightly lit area in the lair. Torches blazed brightly fed by fats soaked onto them that kept them lit and bright. Prepared to fight, Avres looked around for his enemy. Seru's rooms unlike the rest of her lair was very lavishly furnished with racked of silks in different shades of purple, from lavender to violet. The furniture was of the most elaborate design with chairs and tables with scenes of Savonti battles of old carved into oak and maple like woods. On the walls hung tapestries with horrid scenes. Avres stepped closer for a look and was shocked at what he saw. On two of the wall hangings there were scenes of the hunt. He saw his own people the Nevac being slaughtered and chased down. Male and females, woman and children all being killed by the Savonti. Avres remember the legend of the hunt. The survivors taught the children that came after what had happened.
It was said the Savonti came in peace baring fruit and vegetables from the forest to feed the Nevac after a long hard winter. The deal was the the Nevac would trade the precious Pentanthium for enough food to feed the young and teach them the ways to forge the metal. All seemed to be going good until a vicious Lord decided there was another way. Kill all the Nevac take what they wanted from the defenseless people. And so it was done. The Savonti came by the droves and killed millions almost destroying a whole race. But some escaped to the lowest of the underground caves. There they hid in the dark and raised their children afraid to return to their once proud and beautiful cities. There they learned the secrets of their ability to hide themselves from others senses, to become invisible.
Rage filled Avres as he tore the hangings down and threw them into the lava pits to burn. Avres howled out his anger as Seru ran into her apartment and saw him standing there. Avres turned to her brimming with anger.
"Who and what are you?" She asked gripping her staff tightly. Behind her a terrible howl rang through the tunnels. Whatever it was is sounded close. "One of Daru's beast no doubt. Well he is about to learn that the Lady of Serul will not die so easy!"
[WE ARE NOT NOR WILL WE EVER HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH YOUR KIND.] Avres took a step forward toward Seru who stood glaring at them. [DO YOU NOT RECOGNIZE ME? YOU SO BOLDLY DISPLAY OUR DEMISE HERE ON YOUR WALLS. ARE YOU PROUD OF WHAT YOUR GREEDY ANCESTORS DID TO US?]
Seru looked closer at Avres then thought of the tapestry that once decorated her rooms and she knew who faced her. How can it be that any of them lived?
"Nevac!!" Seru called out. "So the dead have risen. It doesn't matter, not even one of your kind can stand against me. Not against a Repuxa!"
Suddenly threw the wall crashed a six legged monster with gleaming multi faceted eyes and long scythe like sharp appendages. It was as large as a small hut and as strong as twenty Tracker beast. The Repuxa had sharp looking snapping mandibles with great cila to grab and feed prey into its mouth. Howling and screaming it barrowed its way in past Seru and came raging at them. Leaping high to get out of the way of it's charge, Avers opened his wings and came straight at the the Repuxa to kick out at it's many eyes. With a swift turn the beast swatted him away and roared as he was knocked away to crash down into the furniture. Climbing back up and turned to see Seru escape from the room. He wanted to give chase but to do the they would have to pass the Repuxa.
Standing calmly out in front the beast, Avres flexed and waited for the beast attack. From the door suddenly he saw someone enter. it was Borkus. But he was suppose to be waiting the humans. As he watched, Bokus couldn't believe what he was seeing. The beast was about to crush Avres with a single blow. Quickly he sent out a thought to his cousin.
[FIGHT IT COUSIN. DO NOT LET IT KILL YOU!]
[BE CALM BOKUS!]
Screaming out it's rage the beast thundered at Avres. Avres lifted his head and one arm and sent it a message.
[PEACE BROTHER. BE CALM. YOUR SAFE WITH US.]
As the thought reached it's brain the Repuxa slowed down and stopped it's howling. It looked at Avres and cocked its head to the side. It understood him. Bokus walked out to stand with Avres and looked at him puzzled.
[YOUR FREE NOW. GO.]
With a whimper the Repuxa turned and moved back through the crashed down wall. It stopped and looked back at them then headed up to the surface and it's freedom.
[WHERE IS SERU?]

Seru now knew no one was coming to her aid. Her humans couldn't help her and she didn't have the warriors to fight with. She had no idea how many Nevac were in her lair so her only course was to escape. Once she found her last two warriors it was time to abandon her lair and find a new place to start over. Moving as fast as they could Seru and her warriors made their way quickly to an escape exit.
[Seru. There is no escape from us.]
As the Lady Seru heard that she moved faster. She was one level away from the exit. She had to find a way to slow down her pursuers. Her only course was to destroy her lair. And there was a way. Most lords had a way to destroy there homes just in case some lord invaded and they could trap them inside. A certain amount of pentanthium placed in a protective case in the lava tubes would cause an eruption that would blow the whole lair up in flames. Seru just had to make it to the exit. There she would find the trigger and have three minutes to escape and get to safety on a waiting Tracker.
Running quickly down the tunnel, Seru followed her two warriors. A sudden noise behind them made her turn. Coming fast behind them in great leaps, two Nevac gave chase.
"Stop them." Seru ordered. "Don't let them follow me."
"Yes my Lady." They saluted and turned to wait for the advancing Nevac.
With the sound of battle coming from behind her, Lady Seru ran. Through her storage rooms and into her stables near the exit. The trigger mechanism was in a hidden cabinet just inside the exist. Quickly Seru saddle a Tracker then went to open the cabinet and release the case of pentanthium.
[THE SAVONTI TIME OF RULE IS OVER.] Avres stepped out of the shadows and stood between her and the cabinet. [NEVER AGAIN WILL YOU FEED OR TORTURE ANOTHER ON PENTANTHIN.]
"So says a cowardly Nevac." Seru laughed and using her commanding tone. "I would never have imagined that any of your kind still live. I guess we didn't do a good enough job at the hunt. STEP ASIDE AND LET ME PASS!" "
[NO. YOUR POWERS WILL NOT WORK ON ME KATALA.] Avres said as they circled each other. [AND YES, WE WERE ONCE COWARDS BUT NOT ANYMORE. WE STILL LIVE AND SINCE THE HUNT WE HAVE LEARNED WHAT IT MEANS TO HATE AND FIGHT THANKS TO YOUR PEOPLE.]
"Hate." She laughed lifting her staff. "Hate is just the beginning of the lesson we taught you. We taught you fear and cowardice and let's not forget to hide. You do that very well. But have you learned to fight?"
[I GUESS WE ARE GOING TO FIND OUT.]
Striking with lightning speed, Seru swung the blade end of her staff out to slash at Avres chest. Quickly he leaped aside avoiding the strike. With a swing of his arm, Avres slashed back using the sharp ridges of his armored arm. Seru ducked and brought her staff around to blast him. With a mighty kick, Avres sent her staff flying.
[STAFF BLAST WON'T HURT ME.] Avres stepped over her staff then kicked it out of her reach. [MY PEOPLE LIVE SURROUNDED BY PENTANTHIN REMEMBER, WE ARE IMMUNE.]
"But your not immune to this." Leaping like a mad Tark Seru attacked. She delivered blow after blow striking ay Avres head and torso forcing him back. Her strength was unbelievable and his armored body took a great beating.
"DIE NEVAC!!" She screamed as she beat at him. With a tremendous push he throw her away from him. But the Savonti were not easy to defeat. Landing on her feet Seru was on him again reaching to use her claws and rip out his gleaming eyes. Bringing his arms up he stabbed at her blindly, slicing into her scaled body, Savonti blood splashed both of them.
"No!!" Seru screamed pulling away and running for the exit. Slowly Avres got up to follow. With a hand on the wall he stumbled climbing up the ramp and out into the swamp. Suddenly a scream rang out and Avres picked up his pace. He was afraid Seru had found the white and grey and they were in trouble. He knew what she would do if she found them and he didn't want to have to fight them under her control.
What Avres found waiting for him at the top of the ramp was justice. Lady Seru, queen of Serul and enemy to all human and Nevac had finally found her end and it was neither the humans or the Nevac that did her in. Lady Seru was being ripped apart by corjo's. She had been killed at last by a beast she hunted for sport. The hunter was killed by the hunted. Now that was justice. Laughing Avres scared the corjo away and dragged Seru's body back to Gabor Gekko's camp and left it there. The Nevac had proved they could do battle and win against a Savonti Lord. The word would be passed and they would fear the Savonti never again. But this was not the end. There were many more to go and the Savonti were a strong enemy. But with the help of the white and grey, the end would come and there would be peace on Pentanthin.

As the first sun climbed over the horizon the sounds of the swamp woke Ono from his deep sleep. He sat up and rubbed the sleep from his eyes. Where am I, he thought. He looked beside him and saw Shayn laying there sleeping soundly. He was relieved to find him here with him safe. But again, where were they? He thought back and remembered the march into the swamp. Gabor had led them here looking for something. No, not something, someone. They were here after a Lord of the Savonti. Quickly Ono got to his feet and woke Shayn.
"Wake up love." He shook him. "We're in trouble."
Opening his eyes Shayn stared up at Ono and smiled. He loved looking into his eyes when he woke up. He stretch then looked around.
"Where are we? What's going on?"
"We're in Serul." He told him as he helped him to his feet. "Last night something happened that put us all to sleep. We have to wake the others. Seru could know we're after her. Come on."
One by one Ono and Shayn moved quietly through the camp waking everyone up. The last to wake was Gabor. And when they found him he was not alone.
"GABOR!!" Shayn shook him. "How in all the gods did you do it?"
"Huh?" Gabor opened his eyes and looked at all their shocked faces. "What are you talking about? How did I do what?"
"That!!" Ono pointed to something beside him.
Gabor sat up and looked to whatever they were pointing at. His eyes flew open and he jumped to his feet when he saw that laying next to him was the dead body of Lady Seru of the Savonti.
"By my fathers ghost!" He stepped back away from the dead Savonti queen. He couldn't believe what he saw. "Who did this? How?"
"We thought you had killed her." Shayn said as Gabor stooped to inspect the body. Seru had been in a fierce fight. There were slab and slash wounds on her body. It looked like something had been gnawing at her body. What could have happened to her? As they all looked on, Gabor reached for her.
"Stop!!"
Gabor turned to see Lilia Kordova being led to them. "Don't touch the filthy beast. Her poisons still live in her blood. Touch her and die."
"Who did this lady?" Gabor asked. "Why is she not below in her lair?"
"Her lair houses only her slaves now. Her spell is broken now and all they wait for is for us to free them."
"But who did this?" Ono asked.
"Hate killed the queen of Serul." Lilia told them. "An ancient hate for all the Savonti."
"Should we be worried?" Gabor pulled his sword free of its scabbard.
Lilia was quiet for a minute then she spoke.
"We have nothing to fear here now. But we shouldn't stay long. Seru is dead, We should get home, we have much to do."
Gabor sent his men down into Seru's lair and freed all the humans down there. They packed up anything they found that could be of use then took her Trackers and were off. Serul was as dead as it's mistress. It was time to get back to the living.
From the trees of the swamp, eyes watch them as they departed. Proud eyes. Eyes that from now on would fight along with the human for freedom of Pentanthin. Freedom for them all.

Treachery was a foot in the halls of the Andrake Academy. Tabor Larin with his ring and a little help from a few misguided student had searched parts of the school and so far found nothing. Could it be that Zarin had had the ring of Endrin somewhere else in Winterhaven? That wasn't possible, he and his friends had searched the entire city and the ring never glowed. It wasn't until he had been on the Academy grounds that the ring his father had given him showed any sign he was near. It had to be here somewhere. He just had to look harder. His problem was that searching the school was becoming more and more difficult. People were beginning to notice his search. That damned Jovan for one. He knew he should have killed that bastard when he failed at keeping the dragons from moving the school. Now the weak idiot was working with them. It was a good thing Tabor was in disguise or he surely would turn him in to Cutter. Another that watched him closely was that big strange boy from the east, Bandit. He had tried putting his spell of him, but the big fool had some kind of resistance that made it useless. Now he watched him and his room mate all the time. Tabor knew something had to be done, but now was not the time.
Now he needed information about where he was. They had told them all that this was not Keanna and one look at the sky confirmed that. Everything here was strange. The animals, the plants, even the sun was all wrong. Cutter had introduced the cadets to a young man named Gabor who had told them about the troubles here on what he called Pentanthin. It seemed there was something here called the Savonti. Gabor said they were enemies to all humans here Pentanthin. The were suppose to be some kind of evil reptilian master race. A race that made slaves of the people and even worst, used them as food. The Dragons had swore to help the people here overthrow the Savonti. But Tabor thought the Savonti sounded like they were the ones in power here and the Dragons new enemy. Any enemy of the dragons could be a friend if he could come to some kind of agreement with them. He had to find some way to contact them. He had to get out of the Academy without anyone knowing he was gone. That's where his control spell could come in handy. All he needed was a few more cadets on his side to help, and that shouldn't be a problem at all.
As Paolo Navare stepped into his room, Rush stood and looked at him with a blank look in his eyes. Tabor knew that look. He had seen it before in Cravens eyes when he put the spell on him. It meant his will was finally bent into something Tabor could use. He wonder if the ring of Endrin would work anything like that only on a grander scale.
"Still no luck?" Rush asked as Tabor came in and took off his cloak.
"No." The now disguised Tabor told him looking at his ring glowing softly. "We need more people to search. It's here somewhere,we just have to find it."
"We've searched all of the cadet rooms." rush sat down on the edge of his bed. "All the lower rooms and most of the outer buildings. "What's next?"
"Class rooms and teachers quarters." Paolo smiled. "Insa's office and his personnel laboratory's. Places Zarin and his friends had access to. I need someone special that has access to those area's. Someone they all trust that can move around without suspicion."
Tabor thought for a moment. There were many that fit that description. A professor or one of the guards or even... Tabor smiled as an idea dawned on him. He knew just the who he could use. They had very limited use or defense against magic and the irony of who they were made it perfect.
"Rush." Tabor smiled at him. "You are able to make a new friends."

It had been a long hot day in the cave and Mera was bored with all the grown ups. No one wanted to play with her. Not even Nysa who was to busy talking to that boy in red. They were all to busy with there stupid stuff. Mera hated it here in the cave. She thought it was creepy. There were to many weird noises and shadows that moved in the corner of your eye. She wanted to go out and play with the animals, gather flowers. Anything but to stay here and do nothing. She thought she would try one more time and get one of her brothers to play.
Smiling Mera skipped over to where Luke was talking to Tored and the older boy named Reno. She reached up and tugged at his sleeve. For a few seconds he ignored her then looked down annoyed.
"What Mera? We're busy here!" Then he went back to his conversation.
"Fine!" She turned pouting and stomped away." I'm going out to play."
Kicking a rock she looked back to see if anyone was paying her any attention. None of them were even looking.
"Nazun." Mad at everyone Mera grabbed her best friend Mif, the doll grandfather had made for her and left the cave and ran off towards the hills. If no one in the cave would play with her, she would find some new friends in the forest to play with.
Out in the fields it was a beautiful day. The smell of blossoms filled the air, small butterflies flitted from flower to flower. Mera laughed and chased after them holding Mif by the arm. She was so happy to be out of that dreary spooky cave. And she was tired of running all the from those bad Savonti. They were so mean to all of them. They had hurt grandfather really bad and now he was gone. She wished he was here. He would play with her if he were. But now he had gone to be with Mamma and Poppa.
Sad, Mera walked down to the stream for a drink for her and Mif. Along the stream Mera found berry bushes. They were nice ripe blueberries her and Mif's favorite. It was time she and Mif had a little party of there own. That would cheer them up. Going from bush to bush Mera gathered a small pile then set them up one a flat boulder at the edge of the stream. Once she had the berries she needed tea for the party. Since she had none water would have to do. Growing alone the stream there was a plant her people called Bellcups. They were pretty blue plants with sturdy cup like blossoms. These blossoms usually caught water and held it to stream along and serve the bed of flower. They were also very strong. Strong enough to pick and drink from. Mera picked two for her and Mif and was all ready for her tea party.
Making plates from leaves she sat down across from Mif and started her tea service.
Unknown to Mera, up stream trouble was on it's way. Out hunting four Savonti warriors were out gathering water for the rogue group they belonged to. These were lord less Savonti's that belonged to no house. Each one expelled for some treasonous reason or running from some crime he had committed. The were hunters that roamed the countryside searching for any lone human caught out alone. It seemed today was their lucky day, or maybe not.
Carrying water jugs they quietly moved down along the stream looking for a deep pool where they could fill the jugs. Suddenly they heard a voice. It was a sweet voice. A young girl. They dropped the jugs and got down to hide amongst the berry bushes. Peeking through the bushes they saw an impossible sight. A small girl sitting by the edge of the stream all alone.
"Look" A warrior pointed licking his lips. "Meat!!"
"I see." Mah, second in command to the nomadic Lord Memu peeked through the bushes. He turned to his three companions. "Wur, take Rol and go back through the brush. Make sure there are no more hiding there. Kol, You stay here, if it runs you can catch it easily. We'll close in and take it once Rol's sure it's alone."
Wur nodded and quietly slipped out of hiding to circle behind and make a quick search of the area. Once they were sure there was no one there, Wur made a sound much like the call of a baebot to signal Mem all was clear. With a return call Memu stood and stepped out into the clearing.
Laughing and enjoying her party, Mera didn't see what was coming at her until it was to late. Then she looked up to see the face of her worst fear staring down at her. Fear took over as she dropped her bellcup and screamed for her brothers. Grabbing her, Yer covered her mouth and laughed.
"Hello little one." He smiled showing his sharp dagger like teeth. "What are you doing out here alone? I wonder if there are more here somewhere?"
Scared to death Mera struggled to free herself. She kicked and bit at the hand covering her mouth as she tried to get away. But the Savonti held her tightly, she could hardly move it all. She looked at Mif lying on the ground and wished she could get up and help her, but there was nothing her friend could do but lay there and watch her being taken away. If only Luke or Tored were here. They would fight and get her free. She wished they were there. In her mind Mera screamed for her brothers help.
[Tored!!! HELP ME!!!!]

Sitting at the fire eating and talking with there new friends Dack and Reno, a bolt of tremendous pain suddenly struck Tored. He dropped his dish and fell to the ground hearing his sister Mera's frantic screams in his head. Less then ten feet away, Nysa saw Tored fall. She threw down her dish and rushed to his side.
"Tored!" She helped him to sit up. "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine." He said looking around. "But where's Mera? Have you seen her?"
"Not since this morning while I was cooking." Nysa looked at her brother strangely. "She wanted to play but I was busy."
"I think somethings wrong. We have to find her now."
Nysa nodded and helped him up. Everyone had gathered around them to see what had happened. Tored asked them all if anyone had seen his youngest sister and no one knew where Mera had gone off to. Quickly they all spread out and searched the cave. They looked inside and all around the grounds outside and through the forest but found nothing.
"Where could she be?" Luke was worried. He had promised his Grandfather he and Tored would keep his sisters safe and find a place for them all. If Mera was gone, then he had already failed.
"Reno is the best tracker I've ever seen." Dack told them. "Wherever she is, he can find her. All we need is a piece of her clothing to get her scent from."
Quickly Nysa rushed and found their packs. She dug around for a second then found what she was looking for. One of Mera's nightshirts. Hurrying back she thrust it out at Reno.
"Will this do?"
Reno took the shirt from her and held it close to smell. The scent of flowers and sweat filled his senses. He had Mera's scent now and could smell her all over the cave.
"Yes." He nodded and gave it back to the worried girl. "I have her scent, it's strong here. She was all over this cave into everything."
"Can you follow her?" Tored asked as everyone gathered around. Thalia and Eheren came over to help. Rese looked worried. He liked the little girl and would do whatever he could to help. Dack and Zarin stood at the cave entrance talking quietly.
"We have a problem." Zarin called waving them over. Together Luke, Tored along with Reno, Craven, Thalia, Nysa and Eheren hurried over to see exactly what the new problem was.
"Look out there beyond the glade." Dack pointed whispering. "What do you see?"
"Nothing." Nysa stared hard. But all she saw was swaying trees. It looked calm and peaceful. But Reno, Thalia and Eheren felt something different. They used more they their eyes to look. Reno and Thalia caught a metallic scent in the air. A scent they had never smelled before. Being a werewolf and a vampire the smell of the living was familiar to both of them. But this was not the smell of human blood. It could only be one thing, the Savonti. Somehow they had found them. Eheren cast out his magic sense and found a large group of reptilian men gathered at the side of the lake. They were armed and talking quietly about a raid they were about to launch.
"I know there's someone out there." Zarin said turning to Tored. "I can feel it with my magic. Trip is in the trees, he says we're about to be attacked by the same kind of things that Rese fought when he found you. Is this the Savonti you spoke of?"
"I'm afraid so." Tored nodded. "I told you they would find us. Now we're all dead."
"But how did they find us?" Rese asked. "I was careful. No one followed us. I would've seen them."
"The campfire." Luke said excited. "We told you their Trackers could follow the scent of the wood. I had hoped it would have been lost in our flight but I guess not. What do we do?"
"We fight." Zark stepped out from behind Craven pulled his twin swords. "How many are out there?"
"There are fifteen armed warriors out there." Reno told them as he shifted to his man/wolf form for battle. "More then we can take without casualties. But we can take them. We have the magic and strength to beat them."
"I think so to." Zarin agreed. "Eheren and Rese can attack from the air while Reno, Zark, Craven and I wade in from below. Thalia ans Dack. I want you to stay here in the cave and protect Tored and his brother and sister. With a little luck and surprise we should be able to take them quickly."
"No!" Thalia stepped up and stopped him. She looked at Eheren then at Zarin. "We should go quickly before they get into the cave."
"What?" Zarin asked with everyone looking surprised at Thalia. "There are only a hand full out there. We can beat them. Why should we run?"
"Because more are on their way." Eheren told them. "Zarin, reach out beyond the lake. Cast your senses out onto the field to the north. I'll guide you."
Eheren took Zarin's hand and together then sent out their senses. Out on the field to the north another twenty warriors rode their Tracker hard in their direction. They would be there in a matter of minutes. If they fought now they would arrive right in the middle of the battle. If they waited ,they would be hopelessly out numbered.
"She's right!" Zarin's eyes snapped open. "We have to go now quietly."
"No!" Thalia shouted. "We can't let them come in here. We have to lead them away!"
"Why?" Zarin asked. "It's an empty cave. We're not leaving anyone behind."
"Do you trust me?" She asked looking deep into Zarin's eyes.
"Yes of course"
"Then just do as I say please!"
Zarin stared into her pleading eyes. There was something she wasn't telling him but right now, answers could wait. They had to go and fast.
"Rese, take Tored and his brother and sister and fly west." He ordered. "We'll lead them south. Everyone stay low on his back and you move as fast as you can. We'll meet you back in the clearing where we first landed. Craven and Zark you ride with Eheren. Get in the sky and make your presence known. Blast them from the sky and get their attention. The rest of us we be following right behind you. Thalia, when we're safe, we're going to talk. Let's go!"
"Wait!" Luke Let go of Nysa and stepped out. "Tored and I can help. We're tired of running from the Savonti."
"They killed Grampa." Tears ran down Nysa's face. Zarin didn't have time to argue but if there was some why they could help, He had to let them try.
"Do what you can." Zarin told him. "Just make sure your all safe. Mera's going to need all of you when we get her back. Rese, take them and get in the air. We don't have much time."
Rese nodded and hurried them to the cave entrance and stopped just inside.
"I'm going to go out and shift to dragon form." Sweat ran down Rese's face as he talked. "There won't be much time. As soon as they see me I think there going to charge in weapons out. You three hurry and get on my back. I'm going to be moving really fast once your on my back so hold on tight."
"Don't worry." Tored grabbed Rese's arm. "They won't see you. We'll hide you from them."
"How?" He asked.
"Your not the only one's with, what did you call it?" Luke asked. "Magic? We have abilities to. They won't see you at all. But the Trackers could catch your scent. You have a strange smell. All of you."
"Just hurry so we can get out of here." With that Rese ran out of the cave. He moved off about twenty yards the shifted to his black and red fearsome dragon form. He knelt and turned back to the cave,
[Hurry! Climb on!!]
In the glade Rese's scent was caught almost immediately by the Trackers and they all began to buck and pull out of fear. The Savonti looked at the cave but saw nothing. But still they all grabbed weapons and started walking slowly toward the cave. A fierce wind blew them all back as Rese took off and climbed high into the Pentanthin sky.
[Zarin.] Rese sent. [We're away safely. But they're coming in fast. Time to get out.]
With a great roar Eheren in his Shine form flew out of the cave. Lightning flashed out from his eyes and mouth as Craven fired bolts of energy again and again. Behind them came Zarin and Thalia in their various bird forms and Reno and Dack as wolf and panther moving with incredible speed. As The Savonti scattered to avoid the attack, suddenly the sky was filled with different dragon like beast. Zarin and the others banked to avoid them not sure what was going on until Rese informed them it was a trick created by Tored and Luke.
Running for their Trackers The Savonti scattered to give chase. But it was a waste of time. None of the Savonti were flyers and they were all to fast to be caught. So off the flew to the south keeping out of reach of the Savonti shock bolts fired from their staff until it was safe to head west and meet up with the others. One good thing did come of their escape. None of the Savonti had made it into the cave. The Nevac were still safe and unknown for now. But not for long.

Battle Lines 46

Sitting alone at his desk Tovar Orsa carefully went over Tir Na's latest reports. In the message Tof sent, he told him of Aggar's escape from Remus with the help of Sharone, Keya and Baron Tyr. He read how Baron Tyr had found a way to break the spell on Raf Thorn and together they had joined forces against the on coming attack. From the outer villages along Tir Na's border reports had been coming in about the forces marching into Yadessa. The numbers reported were huge, Tovar knew Yadessa was in trouble again and this time neither Valkar or Azeal was there to lead them.
He pushed the papers away and looked to the window. He wonder how much time he had before they arrived at the city's gates. Tovar hoped he would have enough time to get his people to safety. There was only one way to find out. He pushed back his chair and walked to the cloak rack and took a dark cape and wrapped it around his shoulders. Turning back to the desk he rang the bell and summoned his aide to attend him. Seconds later a young vampire entered the office and bowed.
"Sir?"
"How's the evacuation going?" Tovar asked as he fished in the desk draw for the message stone Tof had sent him.
"Most of those that can shift have gone." Fual answered. "That leaves anyone without magic and the sick or wounded to be driven away. I have coaches loading them up as we speak."
"How long before they're all gone?"
"Well as long as the roads stay clear, we should be finished in two hours sir." as they talked Tovar went to the window and threw it open. He looked down and saw the long line of coached loading people in the city court yard. There had to be a few hundred people still out there. This scared Tovar. Fual's estimate my be off.
"Two hours?" Tovar said excited. "For all of them?"
"Sir, we have troops down there moving as fast as possible." Fual assured him. "We'll have them out in two hours. Question is, do we have two hours?"
"That's what I'm going out to find out." Tovar stepped up on the ledge. "Once the castle is empty don't forget to set the wards before you go. I don't want them in the palace. At least with Jandar and Eheren's spells we can keep the palace safe. That may be our only way back into the city once Lord Larin and Queen Talsara have control here. I'll be back before you leave. I'll be needing your help in the field."
"Yes Sir." Fual stepped back away from the window. In a flash of vampire magic Tovar shifted into a falcon, spread his wings and took off out into the evening sky.
It was a beautiful clear night Tovar thought as he rose higher into the sky. From here he could see sharply the carriages and coached being loaded. These were the last of the people to leave Vasagi. But as he looked down Tovar saw there were quite a few left. He hoped they still had enough time. But if they didn't. it would be they're job to make the time.
Higher and higher he flew until he could see far out into Yadessa. He saw the outer town's that had been evacuated earlier. All the same villages of Yadessa human and vampire were now like ghost towns. There weren't even cattle or a any stray pets left behind. What he did see was the troops he had ordered out into the trees of the forest to hide. These and whatever Tof could send would be Yadessa's last line of defense. It pained him to know that he had to abandon their home. The home his ancestors had sacrificed so much to hold on to for so many centuries. Thought the vampire/werewolf war. Through the hunger and the lifting of the curse. Through the hunts the humans had from fear of their kind. So much had happened in such a long history to the vampiric people of Yadessa and to the city of Vasagi but there was nothing to be done. So soon after the last war with Muerte and Balthazar Gaelich, Yadessa just wasn't strong enough to beat the invaders. But this was not the end of Yadessa. Not if Tovar Orsa had anything to do with it. He swore he would free his king and take back their homeland. And no elf queen or wanna be king would stop them.
As he flew in the distance he saw the invading army heading across the plains of Deumond north of Vasagi. They were less then an hour outside of the city. Fear rose from Tovar's stomach because he knew Fual would never get everyone out in time. Their only chance was to slow this army down somehow. That's when he heard it. A familiar howl. A certain howl that could only be done by werewolves of the Wolves Lair. That meant Tof and his warriors were there and ready to help. Suddenly the fear was gone and Tovar stared to feel hope. Yadessa's allies were here and he was ready to fight.

"Jandar! Rage! "
A voice began to slip into the dream as a hand reached out to touch his forehead. Bright lights flashed in Jandar's eyes as he opened them for the first time in weeks.
"Jandar, wake up!"
Lift his hand to shield his eyes Jandar focused in on the voice that was calling him. It was Jax. Was he in the dream to? Was he still dreaming at all. Jandar looked around at the room to see where he was. He remembered that in the dream, they were in Rage's old mountain lair. But that's not where he was now. This room looked familiar. then he recognized where he was.
"I'm home?" He pushed himself up to a sitting position. "Jax, I'm awake?"
"Yes brother your awake." Jax smiled down at him. He handed Jandar a cup of water for him to sip at. "Sip slowly."
He took the cup and put it to his mouth to drink. The water felt good sliding down his parched throat. As he handed the cup back he looked beside him and saw Rage open his eyes. He was awaking up too.But what about all the others? Suddenly he was confused.
"They are still sleeping" Jax told him. "I could only bring the two of you out of the dream and I think you'll be needed more in the coming days."
Rage sat up and rubbed his eyes. He looked at Jandar and smiled then grabbed him in his arms for a kiss. Tears ran down Jandars cheek as he hugged his mate.
"We were dreaming?" Rage asked him. He looked around from Jax to Drake as his anger began to build. "What goes on? Who did this to us?"
"The lands at war again and it needs you." Jandar turned and saw his father Drake standing there. "It's time for you both to be up and doing what your new clan does best. Protecting Keanna."
"Without them?" He asked. "Just the two of us ? We don't even know who we're fighting against."
"Nonsense." Drake walked in and sat next to Jandar and Rage. "Who was it that stood up to me and the council on behalf of the vampires? Who was it that saved me from your uncle Tyken Ro? Who was it that defeated Cressca and the Collectors? That was you. My son one of the bravest men born since Azeal Tyr. And a master at your arts. And you, Rage. Who destroyed Polan Dressak? and fought back against a mad death goddess? the two of you did that."
"Father, we can't stop a war alone." Jandar pushed off the blankets that covered him and sat on the edge of the bed facing Jax and Drake. "My magic is not that powerful."
"Your not alone Brother." Jax told him. "There are many of us here to help. Insa, the Shadows and many more. You were once told you would never be alone. Well it's never been more true then now. All you have to do is call and help will come."
Rage stood naked and grabbed a robe off of the rack by the bed. "What of the others?"
"They're safe in the dream." Jax told him. "And I promise they'll wake before this is over."
Jandar walked to the balcony doors and threw them open. The world looked so peaceful from here but he knew not far off somewhere war was raging. Memories of Winterhaven and dark things he had seen in his dreams began to come back to him. Suddenly he felt anger at all that had happened and was going on right now. With a burst of rage he roared. His roar was so loud everything in the room shook. Drake was amazed to his son's power and rage as his staff appeared in his hand.
"We have work to do. Wait in the parlor, we'll be dressed in a minute" Drake and Jax left as Jandar closed the window and went to the closet and took out a pair of leather pants, a gray shirt and a black and red leather jacket for himself. For Rage he found his red leathers. They dressed quickly then went out meet the others.
"Now how can I help?" Together they made their way down the stairs and through the manor. Jandar was hungry. it had been a while since his last meal. In the kitchen he made himself a quick meal while they talked.
"First I have a question for you." Drake looked the three deep in there eyes. "Where is Ono? How do I find him?"
Jandar stopped putting down his empty glass and stared at his father. He wasn't sure what to tell him. Ono and Shayn had been missing for months now. He and Rage had done everything in there power to find them including to ask the gods for help. All he could find out was that they were fulfilling their own destiny's and that if they succeeded a whole world would benefit. All he could do was to take Alea's word on that and pray for their safe return. Now here was his father hoping to figure out some way to find him. What was he to saw? How was he to help him?
[You can't.] A voice said in his head. [But maybe I can.]
[Who speaks?] Surprised Jandar jumped from the table. Everything around Jandar froze in time. He knew he was about to be visited be someone special. From the tone of the voice he knew this wasn't just some mage or werewolf speaking to him. The voice had power, it had to be one of Jax's people. One of the gods. Suddenly an image appeared in front of him. It was a tall gray haired young handsome man dressed in the brightest white. He wore no armor, but his cloak and tunic seemed to shine like it had been made of star stuff. In his hand he carried a staff long as a spear and white with an elaborate symbol on it's head like nothing Jandar had ever seen before
[Correct.] He smiled. [Jax is one of my brothers. I am Karis, messenger of Rimnar. I am the one that freed you of the dreamworld and I've come to offer you a small favor.]
[Thank you for your help Karis.] Jandar sent. {But unless your going to free the others, I'm not sure how you can help.]
[I'm sorry that's forbidden.] The god told him. [But I can help with your father's request. I can take him to the one he searches for.]
[You know where Ono and Shayn are? Take me to them, please!]
[Your needed here on Keanna.] Karis came to stand next to his frozen brother. He looked at his younger brother. [We kinda look a like huh? Anyway, you have enough to do. Let your father do this. He needs it.]
[I guess I don't have much choice do I?]
[None at all.] He shrugged. [Leave him here. He'll fall asleep and wake up in another place. The rest is up to them.]
{Will he be safe?]
[Jandar.] Karis smiled and began to fade out of sight. [Where he's going, no one's safe. Not unless Ono and Shayn succeed in what they're doing. But I will tell you this. He will wake up in a place where he will be needed.]
"Jandar?" Jax waved his hand a snapped his fingers to get his attention. Jax and Drake looked at him confused. "Where's your mind? Still in the dream?"
"No, don't worry." The Mage smiled at them. "I'm here and ready to get to work. We need to get to Yadessa in a hurry. Jax,your with me. Father, your staying here."
The look on Drake Tyr's face showed his annoyance at Jandar for not answering his question. Ono was his youngest by blood and be was missing. There was no way he could go on and just trust in fate to protect him.
"I'm not going to just sit around here or the Wolves Lair while my boy is missing." Drake stormed. "If you can't help me, I'll find him myself."
"Trust me." Jandar put his hand on his father's shoulder then hugged him. "Fate will take you where you need to be. Just rest here and in the morning things could be different. Now we have a battle to fight. Let's be off Jax."

From the front gardens Drake watched as Jandar, Rage and Jax walked away from the manor gates. With a roar Jandar shifted to his feathered dragon form and Rage to his larger red dragon form. Jax climbed up high to sit on Rage's neck and they spread his wings and took off into the sky. Drake walked to a bench in the garden and sat down. Fate he thought. How could fate help him find his son. It had never really been ob their side before in the years pass. Why should fate help him now?
High in the towers of New Keanna towers a god watched and listened. He knew the werewolf was wrong, fate had always watched over his people. Fate had been there to help then when they were slaves to the vampires. It had brought home the spirit of Danik Tyr to rest. Now again it would help another son of the Were. And if it was his destiny, it would get him home.
From the guard house window a pair of eyes watched as the dragons flew off into the clouds. Jandar and Rage were awake. His master Lord Larin would want to know this immediately. If he had hid himself somewhere closer in the manor he might have been able to find out where they were going. But right now it didn't matter. The fact that they were awake was enough. Now he just had to inform his lord that there was trouble on the way.

With his mind going one hundred miles an hour, Wyn rushed into his private study. Talsara's last orders to her evil little imp kept going through his mind. How could the woman he loved be some hateful to her own child? Did love not mean anything to her? Was power all she really cared about? Somehow he had to find a way to stop her. He couldn't let Elan or Aron suffer at her hands. There was no way he would or could let her hurt either of them. Somehow he had to get Aron out of Darkshade and stop Elan from coming home. Their lives depended on it.
Once in his study he paced back and forth deep in thought. How could he help? What could he do? Suddenly he heard a sound from behind him at his desk. It was the popping sound that he knew. He turned to find Argus jumping up and down on his desk excited.
"I FOUND HIM! I FOUND HIM!!"
"Elan?" Wyn rushed to his desk. "Is he alright?"
"He's in Wintehaven fighting with Lord Larin's men." Argus beamed happily. "They freed all of the old guardsmen from Lord Larin's dungeon and managed to escape. He's safe."
"Did you talk to him?" Wyn was anxious to hear any news of his son. "Does he know what happened to Aron? That his mother has him here in Darkshade?"
"No Master. I couldn't speak to him. I watched their escape to make sure it succeeded but I had no chance to contact him. Would you like me to go back and bring him home?"
"No!" Wyn was relieved Elan was safe and unaware of things in Darkshade, "I have something else I want you to do. There's someone in the dungeon we have to help. We have to help get Aron out of here before Talsara can hurt him and we have to do this before Elan finds out and trys to rescue him."
"I understand master." Argus popped out and reappeared on Wyn's shoulder. Wyn walked to the window a looked out. Outside thousands of troops were standing in formation gathered there for exception. "Her war has grow master. Can anyone stop her?"
"I don't know." Wyn told his old friend. "I fear for us all. Her power has become unstoppable."
"No." Came a voice rang out from no where. Wyn jumped and pulled his sword as he searched his apartment for the source of the voice. "There is one that can stop her."
In a cloud of magic an old elven woman appeared. Wyn looked closer and realized he knew he.
"Hasmira?"
"Yes my king." She bowed. "I am here to warn you one last time that you and your queen are the reason this all happened. If you hadn't bowed to her terrible ambition none of this would have happened."
Guilt filled Wyn's heart for he knew her words were true. If he hadn't helped her seize Darkshade there would be peace all over Keanna. But the deed was done. It was to late to worry about the past, but not the future. That hadn't been written yet.
"Your right." Wyn walked out to stand in front of Hasmira. He could see the hate she had been filled with for all these years. Wyn reached out and took her hand. "My action caused you to lose someone you loved. For that I'm so deeply sorry. All I can say is I was blinded by my love for Talsara and I did a horrible thing. I apologize for what we did and I swear one day all of Darkshade will know our secret. But there was something that came out of our sin that was right. You have a grand son Hasmira. Elan is Liat's son."
"What?" Hasmira pulled back her hand in shock. "How can this be true? Liat had no mate, how can he have a child?"
"It is true, my lady." He assured her. "My son is your grand son and for him I promise to do whatever has to be done to keep him safe."
Hasmira had known all about Elan for years. She had watched him grow into the fine young elf he was. She know all about his relationship with Aron and of others like them. She also knew of many different races and cultures where there were rules against such behavior. But love was no crime, that she knew deep in her heart. If they were happy together then no one should have the right to keep them apart. Least of all the queen of Darkshade who never really knew a second of real love in her life. Now she had two to protect. Two that were in severe danger. Her task had just become much more difficult.
"You know what must be done to keep them safe?" Hasmira looked deeply into Wyn's sad eyes. "She must be stopped and Aron must be made safe. We can't allow him to be harmed by her."
"I know Lady." Wyn shook his head in agreement. "We just have to keep Elan from coming back to Darkshade. If he finds out about Aron being here, he will come."
"Help is on it's way." Hasmira turned and stepped back away from Wyn ready to leave. With a final look back she smiled at Wyn. "I forgive you Wyn Limeira and thank you for keeping my grand son safe. Now you have to keep Aron safe too or all is lost for all of us."
With that she disappeared into the cloud and was gone. On his shoulder Argus had sat quietly during the whole conversation. Wyn reached up and took him down and sat him on his desk.
"We have a lot to do. There's another down there we have to free."

Screams woke Aron up from his bed of straw on the floor of his cell. Screams he had been hearing for days since he was put into this hellish place. Aron looked up at the window and saw it was dark outside. From the heat he could feel, the sun must have just gone down. He was scared and wished he was back with the others still in Fay Shrea. He wondered how they were. Where they were. Where they looking for him? Then he thought of Elan. He missed him so much but he was so glad he wasn't there. Aron knew it would be very dangerous for him to be in Darkshade right now. He had been right. All Elan had said about his mother was true. Aron didn't understand how any parent could hate like that. Especially they're own child. It's not like they were the first of they're kind in the elven lands. Male couples were far from unheard of in the Elven community. There were even Elven kings with male mates. Good kings that ruled great dynasties whom there are ballads sung about. What was she ashamed of? There was no reason for her animosity.
The sound of someone in the corridor outside of his cell caught his attention. Aron stood up and went to see what it was. There was an older elf lurching down the hall pushing a cart with a huge pot of some foul smelling stew. He was dressed in rags and there were scars all over his face and arms, You could tell he was in pain from how he moved. As Aron watched he stopped at the door of each cell and push in a bowl for the occupants out reaching hands. Once he was done he moved onto the next cell. When he reached Aron's cell he stopped and looked at him. The elf had a odd look on his elderly tortured face. Whoever this elf was Aron knew he had to be a prisoner here. One that had been here a very long time. He opened his mouth to talk and only grunted. Aron looked closer at him as he pointed into his mouth. with shock and horror he noticed the elf had no tongue. What a horrible place this must be. Grabbing the ladle the elf dished up a bowl of slop and pushed it at Aron. Aron took it through the slot at the bottom of the door and noticed the elf had passed him a piece of parchment with his food. Aron looked up to see the old elf nod and push the cart on. Looking to make sure none of the guards had seen the exchange, Aron took the bowl and went and sat in to corner of his cell with his back to the door. The placed the bowl down and opened the parchment.

Aron Neveral.
This letter comes to you through someone I trust. I am Wyn Limeira Darkshade. Elan's father. As you know you are in danger here. Queen Talsara plans to kill both you and Elan. This I can't allow to happen. Soon you will have a visitor. He will get you out of Darkshade and somewhere safe. Be ready he will come in the night. Safe journey and tell Elan I love him.

Aron took the note and stared at it for a minute to let the words. He had an ally here. Someone he never expected help from. The king of Darkshade himself. Aron thought back on what Elan had told him about his father. How Wyn was his mothers most loyal servant and would do anything for his queen. In fact he had once even killed for her to gain the Darkshade throne. Now her ambition threatened Elan and it seemed Wyn thought Elan's death would be something he couldn't bare. Well I guess he would find out tonight exactly what help he would get from the king, if any.

After riding all night from Fay Shrea, Ryel, Orek, Noelle, Toric and Denner found themselves on the border just outside of Tir Na. They were all tired and needed a place to rest but something told them they had better hurry. For miles they had been seeing the effects of the war. They had passed through a few villages on their way that had been wiped out. Not a soul still lived in them but there were plenty of bodies being torn apart by wild beast. After seeing these villages Ryel was becoming more worried about Eventide, but he couldn't think of that right now. It might make him turn back and it was important that they hurry and get to Aron.
As the left the forest Toric told them they we're now at the border of Tir Na and Yadessa to the left. In front of them a long line of people were heading out of Yadessa. Above many different birds flew in formation towards Tir Ma. They all looked exhausted. Wagons loaded with all they're belonging were being pulled by cattle. Ryel noticed their pale colors and dark hair and asked who they were.
[Vampires.] Denner sent. [I'm guessing things aren't going well in Yadessa if their on the move. I wonder where Valkar is.]
"Still in Vasagi fighting I'll bet if I know him." Together they steered the horses to the side of the road. There they stopped a man walking along looking tired.
"Aiya sir." Toric called down to him. "Trouble in Yadessa?"
"Yes." He answered with a scowl. "Those damned Dark Elves are attacking. We just manager to get everyone out in time. They have taken all the countryside and even invaded Remus in Tir Na. We go to the Wolves Lair to seek their protection. Tis a sad day for Yadessa."
"What of Valkar your king and the troops of Yadessa?" Orek asked. "Surely they fight? Can't they keep them out?"
"Our army is small since the war with Muerte." The vampire told them. "Without the help of our allies we can't stand against such a large army at our gates."
"And Valkar?"
"Missing." He said turning to join the crowd heading to Tir Na. "Valkar was last seen heading to Prafa. No one's heard from him since he left. Without him, we're lost."
"There's more to this then an elven raid." Ryel said. "Darkshade is strong but to take on Yadessa and Tir Na they would need a much stronger army then Talsara could raise. I think Lord Larin's hand is in this to."
"Then we should hurry and find Tof." Toric said pulling a message stone from his pocket. "Maybe we can help."
Urging their horses into a run, Ryel and his friends hurried on into Tir Na and the war that was about to rip into Yadessa.

Riding a top his war horse at the head of his troops, Seith stopped and looked out at the towers of Vasagi. The city didn't look anywhere near as formidable as it had been described to him. They had been attacked yes by random small bands of defenders but no huge vampire army had come charging out the gates to stop them. If fact the city looked almost deserted to him. There was no one on the walls of the city, just a massive flock of crows that circled the towers of what Seith knew had to be the newly renovated Castle Zlenka. He smiled at the thought of how easy this was going to be. The city was theirs. All they had to do was march in and claim it for Queen Talsara and Lord Larin without a fight.
These vampires were cowards he thought. All the talk of their legendary cunning and fierceness was nothing but talk and ancient legend. With a quick wave of his hand he called for his new Werewolves to attend him. Like savage animals two of the Werewolves in wolf man form split off from the huge pack and loped down to Seith. With a wild look in his eyes a grey wolf the leader of the pack saluted their General.
"Your orders Sir." The grey werewolf growled in his deep voice. His tongue hung down from his saliva dripped jaws.
"Take a few of you dogs and go down and open the gate." He ordered. "Clear the way for my men. It should be easy even for you mutts."
Nodding and eager to prove himself the lead wolf barked back at his pack for three others to come follow. Once together they took their full wolf forms and sped off for the gates. At the gates the three stopped to examine them. They were huge doors of wood that rose high at least fifty feet as high as the walls that surround the city. On each door the was a great brass ring thick as a mans arm. With their superior sense of smell the five wolves sniffed all around the huge gates to the city. The smell of fresh grass and nightshade filled the air, but there was another scent. A strangely familiar scent that none of them recognized. Listening closely the five listened for the sound of anyone behind the gate. Wolves had excellent hearing and Werewolves even better. Most Werewolves could hear prey from a hundred yards away. They heard nothing but the sounds of the crows as they flew around and gathered in the towers and the courtyard behind the gate. General Seith was right they smiled. The city was quiet. But were these gates locked, there was only one way to find out.
"Open the gates."
Stepping up to the gate one man pushed at it. It swung in an inch. They were open. The foolish blood suckers hadn't even locked their city before they abandoned it. He turned to his companions for help pulling the great doors open. With two on each door they reached up and grabbed the brass rings and pulled. Suddenly that strange smell came flowing out of the city. The grey one frowned as he caught the scent. He knew that scent. He had smelled it before. He remember from Remus. Just then he remember just what it was. It was the scent of Raf Thorn. Just then a fury of claws and fangs burst from the city and ripped into the the grey one tearing into his throat and stomach. With a kick he was sent fly as another flash of black fur came roaring out to rip through two other man still holding the rings of the doors. Howling his rage, Baron Raf Thorn leaped at the two other werewolves still standing before they could even raise a defense. He slashed at ones exposed neck then kicked the other to the ground. As he tried to scramble away Baron Azeal Tyr walked over snarling and kicked him in the head killing the werewolf.
Covered in his enemies blood, the tall dark man dressed in ancient armor stepped out in view of the troops facing them and sent out a blood chilling howl of defiance.
"So Baron Thorn." General Seith walked his horse over to where they could hear him. He lend down and gave them a sly stare "I was wondering where you had gone to. I see our spell on you has been broke. Who's your friend there?"
"I am the one that will see you and all your men buried in this field if you don't turn back and leave this city in peace." Baron Tyr flexed his muscles making himself grow in statue in his dark armor. "Go back to Darkshade where you belong."
"Ha ha ha ha!!!!" He sat back in his saddle and laughed. "I have a better idea. Your both great warriors. We can use men like you. My queen will reward you both greatly that, I can promise. Join us."
"I've already done more damage to my own home then I can even live to pay for." Raf yelled back at the elf. "This ends here and now."
"You think the two of you can stop us? Neither one of you could possibly have that kind of power. I don't care who the strange is. I have a army behind me, what do you have?"
"I am the former Baron Azeal Vasili Tyr." Baron Tyr thundered raising his arms. "First ruler of Tir Na and I AM NOT ALONE!!!"
In a flurry of feathers, crows and many other birds of prey flew in from everywhere. Out of the trees and buildings. Out of the towers and the forest until they were all over the walls of Vasagi.
"Birds?" Seith watched as they flew in. Suddenly a lone falcon called and came flying in low over there heads to land at the Barons side. "What is this? Your help? Birds?"
"Vampires!!!"
In a blur of magic the birds all shifted and became armed warriors. Suddenly there at the Barons side stood fifty armed warriors and Count Tovar Orsa. General Seith's horse reared up at there sudden appearance.
"You think these blood sucker are going to stop us from taking this city." General Seith pulled his sword ready to fight. "Your wrong! We out number your petty group and nothing can stop us!"
"This is our land." Count Orsa called out as he pushed aside his coat to reveal the sword on his hip. "If you want it, come and take it!"
"We'll see about that." General Seith raised his sword. "At them my dogs!!"
From all sides Seith's Werewolves charged in teeth snapping and claws bared ready to rip into the enemy. With a howl Barons Tyr and Thorn leaped out and into the fight. In seconds vampires and werewolves were fighting again. The fight for Yadessa had begun.

The sun blazed high in the sky as Lord Larin sat in the garden with the Lady Ashura and enjoyed there lunch. The table was filled with many delicious dishes for them to enjoy. Roast pheasant with a savory mushroom and bread stuffing. Plates of wild rice and stewed and baked vegetables and some of the most delicate wines Winterhaven wine merchants had to offer.
It had been a relaxing day and so far Lady Ashura had plied many secrets from Lord Larin without him know with just her smile. He never at any moment thought there was a possibility that she could be a spy. But that was exactly what she was.
As they ate a man rushed out to the table and whispered in Tayor's ear. Suddenly his face drained of blood and Lady Ashura knew something was wrong. Lord Larin reached out and grabbed the man by his throat and screamed at him.
"Jandar and Rage are awake!!"
The magic and anger surged into the man causing his blood to begin to boil. Lord Larin squeezed harder as smoke began to seep from the mans mouth nose and ears. He convulsed and tried to scream but it was to late. His brain had already been burned to a cinder in his skull. Lord Larin threw him on the ground and grabbed the table and threw it aside.
"Youron!!" He yelled. "Get out here now!!"
Like a scared dog Youron came running out and bowed to his angry master never taking his eyes off him.
"You called my Lord?"
"Ready my horse. We ride within the hour."
As Youron rushed off to carry out his lords wishes Lord Larin looked over at Ashura who looked back at him frightened.
"Forgive me Lady." He took her hand and kissed it. "I allowed my anger to take over for a minute. Our lunch will have to wait. An enemies head has risen and I must deal with it."
"I understand." Ashura stood and smiled and kissed his cheek. "You have business to take care of. I will see you when you have more time."
"Someone will see you home." Lord Larin bowed to her. "I will send for you once I'm done. Aiya my lady."
"Aiya."
Lord Larin turned and stalked off heading back into yelling orders as he went. Ashura took her napkin and wiped a spot of blood of her gown then hurried off to her coach. Pelic would want to hear what had just happened. The masters of New Keanna awake. Thank Rimnar. We just might have a chance now.

Back in the manor Lord Larin sat at his desk going over what had happened in the last few days. His men and the elven warriors had been taking kingdoms and any region they moved through. Elves, dark elves, gnomes, dwarves, no one could stand against them. No ones so far except the land of Fey Shrea. Somehow the fairy folk had found a way to thwart there plans. But that didn't worry Lord Larin. He knew their day would come once they controlled enough of Keanna. Now his only probably was the Dragons. He had put most of them under a spell but a few managed to slip away. And now it seemed Jandar and King Rage had somehow been awakened. That means his three most power enemies, Jandar, Rage and Insa were free to somehow find a way to stop his and Talsara's plans to conquer all of Keanna. They had to be stopped. Destroyed if he had his way. And he had just the agents to do it.
"My lord." Youron called from the door. "The horses are ready."
"Come in Youron." Lord Larin turned to face him. "We should talk for a minute. Close the door."
"Yes my lord." Youron quietly shut the door and went and stood in front of his desk."
"You have something to tell me don't you." Tayor Larin sat back in his chair with his staff at his side and eyed his chief lieutenant.
Fear filled Youron as he stood and thought quickly on how he should tell his master about what had happened in the barracks. How he himself had allowed all of Winterhaven's old guard unit to escape. No lies would work. Lord Larin could easily make him speak the truth by force if he wanted to. Youron glanced at the glowing stone on the head of the staff and decided to he has no choice but to just tell him of his failure.
Frightened of what would happen when he was done Youron told him everything from the moment he entered the barracks to the moment he was freed from the dungeon spell that held him prisoner. Once finished Lord Larin just stared at him. Youron wanted to run but he knew if he did he would be dead before he could take two steps towards the door. So he waited for his punishment. He waited for his death to come.
"This is the second time you have failed me Youron." Lord Larin said calmly. His staff flashed with dangerous dark color threatening Youron. "Tell me. Will there be a third?"
The air in the room seemed to be like mud, thick and heavy. Sweat burn Youron's as it ran down his frightened face. He knew what answer he had to give him, his life now depended on it.
"No my lord." He answered. "Never again will I fail you. You have my word."
"I have your life." Lord Larin stood and faced him. "Don't forget that. Now we go to find Sarella. I have need of her talents. Bring our horses to the front of the manor and we'll be off."
"Yes my lord." Youron bowed and hurried out of the room.
"Dragons. I'll kill you all if it's the last thing I do."
With that Lord Larin left his office. He had one thing on his mind. The death of all Dragons and the rule of all of Keanna. With or without the Dark Elven Queen.
